JAL 777-300ER back on Sydney route

Does anyone know the dates of the plane swap, more specifically when does JAL stop flying the 777 with F to SYD?
Sunday 30th March - the day flight JL52 goes up to Tokyo as the 777. When JL51 comes back that night, it'll be the 787.

Is it likely to come back or even better with the new F seats?

They're showing the 777 back at the end of October, but not currently selling F class.
The new F class will only appear on the A350-1000s that are replacing the 777s on a 1 in 1 out basis. I'd say that SYD would be a ways down their list, particularly as we don't have the 777 year round.

Has anyone else had trouble selecting the seat on the HND to SYD flight in J after the downgrade? I can see the seatmap and select seats but I get an error when I try to save it.

I was hoping there may be something in April but looks unlikely
Interestingly F awards never showed for me and I checked for days before and within seconds of their release. J was thank goodness. However I was able to select the 'f' cabin. But alas that's gone now.

Update - got through after almost an hour on hold.

Me: "What will be the refund on taxes and points if I accept the downgrade"?
Agent: "I can't tell you until after the flight".
Me: "How do I decide whether to cancel or take the flight"?
Agent: "That's dealt with by another department".
Me: "Can you transfer me"?
Agent: "Not until after you have taken the flight".
Me: "..."
Did you get clarification on what the refunds would be for accepting the downgrade?

I'm in the same situation for the early April return leg. Disappointing to say the least but wouldn't be accepting the downgrade unless it was confirmed a refund of points difference + tax would be given out.

The taxes are highly unlikely to change. You will definitely get the points back.

I was charged 41,280 JPY for my F booking, while a new J booking appears to cost 37,100 JPY. Would the refund not include this difference?

The taxes can change almost daily due to exchange rate movement and other factors.

Ask them to process this as a voluntary change, with the change fee waived due to the cabin downgrade. This way you will get your points back and your taxes back now rather than after travel.
