Hi all,

First time poster - long time lurker.

This is more aimed at the NB's and PS's who are on JAL and don't have OW automatic lounge access, the Sakura lounge is worth the 5k yen outlay at check in!

Me and a friend, both NB, where up-sold on it as part of our paid Y - > PY upgrade for 30,000 yen, even though not advertised (if interested, make sure you ask - still not sure if it's just if you buy the PY upgrade?). It's similar to QF dom business lounge (IMO) and, as you would expect the service is A grade! Top shelf booze - I recommend the Hibiki Suntory 17 old Japanese Whisky, as well as excellent food; (good) miso soup or beef curry (brilliant!).

Taking the paid upgrade is worth it IMO, especially for the extra leg room and a wider seat (JAL is narrow for obvious reasons) for a 6 foot 4 guy on a 10 hour flight is like christmas coming early for under AU$500! Even more satisfying was bulk head seats (row 17 on the 777) with even more leg room!

So far I've been very satisfied with JAL!

yes never flown JAL. they were close to collapse some time back but pulled them selves from the brink of disaster.

I think the OW management has helped here as well. they are very loyal members of the alliance.

Visiting after Christmas, so will check out the lounge.

Based on my experience at SFO, the JAL Sakura lounge is absolutely nothing special, but that may have more to do with the fact SFO I don't think is a massive JAL destination.

Welcome to AFF sanke9. :D

Seems interesting, where is this paid access advertised?

Cheers serfty!!!

Um.. wasn't advertised at the check in counters. However when paying for the upgrade (to PE) at the JAL ticketing desk, a women produced a fancy looking A3 poster card with photos of the lounge with the 5000 yen price at the bottom - so we knew it was legit!

As i said, not sure if you could purchase the access without paying for the PE upgrade. The staff at JAL where so friendly, i'd imagine you can!!

Thankyou for that. What airport / route was this?
