Japan Airlines plane in flames at Tokyo's Haneda airport

Far out! People were evacuated from that?
NH and JL are known to fully board high density widebodies within 10 minutes. Why wouldn't they be able to get the same amount of people off in an emergency? It looks like most of the fire was at/near the 34R threshold centered around whatever it is they hit (this reported coast guard aircraft?) while the cabin continued down the runway away from the majority of the flames.

Watching the JL plane burning now, it was a miracle all passengers and crew were safely evacuated!

You can see the Dash 8 closely if you look at the video. It looks like it is on the runway awaiting takeoff? I don’t believe they are holding short as I doubt the captain would have survived if they clipped coughpit.

The Captain of the Dash 8 has apparently survived.

You can definitely sense some undercarriage damage on that internal video while still rolling down the runway

My daughter and I are about 4km from Haneda in Ota City, and there were a lot of emergency vehicles flashing past about 5 to 6 pm but all quiet now. We really didn't know what was going on until we got a call from home. It's the second "panic call" from home in the past 48 hours with the earthquake, which we didn't feel here in Ota.

It seems someone in the tower will get in heaps of trouble over this. Possibly cleared JL to land while the dash 8 was preparing to depart.
someone might need to go over the ATC records and see what the aircraft involved were cleared for.

I'm sure we'll get a full scale investigation out of this.

Too early to speculate at this stage what went wrong besides the fact that the 2 planes have definitely collided.

Sky just played a video from a pax inside. Terrifying.

QF59 and NH890 are due into HND from SYD shortly. no sign they've been diverted (yet).

flightrader24 has DL276 sitting at the 34R hold bar. They might have seen it happen right in front of them.

I believe they wouldn’t be able to accept any new aircraft until the firefighters have been stood down. Effectively they wouldn’t be able to respond to another incident therefore aircraft have to divert until it’s resolved - despite having other runways available.

It looks like the aircraft on the ground at HND, that are able to, are turning around and going back to gates. DL276 might need a tug to come out and push them back to a taxiway where they can turn around.
