Jayne Hrdlicka to resign as CEO

Virgin Australia Chief Executive Jayne Hrdlicka says their airline is bringing “great value” for any Australians “hungry to travel”. The new partnership between Virgin and Qatar Airways is taking flight and enticing customers with competitive fares to rival Qantas.

“Those fares are going to be very competitive,” Ms Hrdlicka told Sky News Australia. “We haven’t seen fares that low in business class for four to five years.”

As aviation mysteries go, the case of Virgin Australia CEO Jayne Hrdlicka is not in the same league as the disappearance of MH370, but it remains a source of widespread industry intrigue.

I am sure the vast bulk of Virgin pax 'Hungry to travel' - the ones who book the lowest ticket prices available, (mostly Jetstar!) will be OVERJOYED to hear Biz Class fares are only 4 or 5 times than what they are now paying.

I have a feeling Bain/Qatar might have got spooked with one prominent union advising they will be withdrawing support for the QR deal if they install Paul Jones, and actively campaigning against it. They said they will pull support at any time also, even during the process.

I think Qatar would pass over someone like Paul Jones for someone else if it means getting the deal up. You don’t want unions jumping up and down during the approval process creating headlines. Would be easier to just dump Paul Jones and opt for someone else. Too much at stake.

Yep, need to get the deal done before angering the Unions. Once the deal is done you can then appoint who you please

Nice to see The Australian delivering nothing but a wet rag. Nothing stated that wasn't already known.
Bravo to the fine journalism at The Australian ;)
They did with this with the Qatar deal. Reported the same ‘it’s coming it’s about to be announced trust me!’ garbage on a monthly basis for about a year. Then they got the % wrong when the deal was announced.

Don't see why the need to be so down on the report. It was an interesting recapitulation, noting that she was still there notwithstanding the announcement almost a year earlier that she was on the way out and that an overseas recruitment firm had been engaged to find a replacement.

Call it summer hols reading, if you like.

The media on the VA affairs (back in the 1.0 days) goes all the way back to the old
"SiNgApOrE WiLL tAeK oVaH ViRgIn aNd WiLL bRiNg ThEm iNto TeH sTaR aLLiAnCe !!!!111111!!"
"For rEaL this time !!!!11!!"
That was a recurring story back in the late Borghetti and early Scurrah days when the losses at VA 1.0 started to pile up.
