We don't want to go OT for long, but you asked.

Yes, officially not. However from my experience TR flight attendants turn a blind eye, although I only ever brings snacks and non-alcoholic drinks on board, and keep turning around to see if a staff member is approaching. It's funny (but also 'disturbing') to do this, but I've no wish to suddenly become the centre of attention if an FA decides to be officious.

I've never stretched the relationship by bringing KFC, Red Rooster or anything else hot/odorous on board. Not worth the risk.

I'd love to know how many have become aware of this and refused to book on TR as a result. It's just about the silliest 'revenue enhancing initiative' I can recall.

Here's an excerpt from its website (it depends on whether 'water' is a 'beverage' but I'd suggest that it is, even though often it's unadulterated):

With due respect SQ, even after paying for meals, luggage etc are never cheaper on this particular route. There is a strong correlation between LCC and non LCC fares. Sometimes QF and EK are in the ball park.

I paid $135 (including meals and luggage) to travel to MEL on TR and paid $240 (including meals, luggage, free seat selection and about 6000 FF points ) on Jetstar coming back. But I do it with eyes wide open, knowing full well Jetstar is unreliable. Although it worked out for the better (and even if I’d been still travelling I would have appreciated taking QF37 instead of JQ7 with extra 4 hrs in Melbourne, so still would have worked out for me).

On the Scoot food/drink policy, not sure what Singapore MRT policies on food and drink have to do with Scoot. They are there to keep trains clean. But I know from experience you can’t take steaming hot curries or fast food, for eating during the flight. However as long as you are discrete, no one is going to stop you eating a sandwich, fruit, chocolate, chips, nuts etc on board. Just wait until after initial meal service. Also the queues at the water taps at Changi gates before TR flights can be longer than the queue to board, as people fill their empty bottles prior to boarding (in fact on my trip down, Scoot employee was walking up and down the queue telling people that it was the queue for the water cooler, and if they didn’t have a water bottle to fill, feel free to board).

The connection is that it's the same Singaporean mentality. Control.

Your contribution begs the quesion: if it's not enforced, why state it? Why can't TR management just delete the sentence about 'no food and drink', or if they wish, do similar to what V/Line in Victoria does and specify 'no hot foods or hot beverages to be brought on board, and other drinks must have a lid. Alcohol can only be consumed if purchased on board.'

That would solve everything.

Pushka, if by 'today' you mean (with the huge time difference for HNL) Friday 26 April, then JQ1/JQ2 appear to be operating normally MEL - HNL and v.v.

However today's departure from MEL of JQ17, the scheduled midafternoon 1450 hours to HKT has been delayed until 2130 tonight. B788 VH-VKJ remains inoperable, impounded in KIX. JQ18, today's arrival from HKT has also been cancelled so that route, not HNL, is bearing the brunt of JQ being a Boeing 787-800 aircraft short.
 
They arrive into Australia later tomorrow (Sat) so am presuming that is Friday departure Hon time so strictly speaking that’s tomorrow. I am so carp at working out time changes. We are replicating their trip in a few months and it’s JQ2 into Melbourne departing at 8am.
 
JQ449 (26 April, the 1810 hours early evening OOL - MEL up up and away at 1917 with A320 VH-XJE looks to be arriving at 2122 tonight, 47 late.
 
Also on Friday 26 April, the badly delayed 1450 hours MEL - HKT (JQ17) was meant to have pushed back at 2130 but by 2225 hours had not done so. This means an even greater delay for JQ18 passengers waiting in coughet.
 
B788 VH-VKG on the Saturday 27 April 2019 scheduled JQ63 from MEL up to SGN, the 1515 hours, took off at 1934 so arrival should be at about 0005 on Sunday 28, three hours late. This aircraft operated yesterday's extremely tardy JQ17 (the 1450 hours MEL - HKT airborne at 2343, late at night), and then JQ18 that arrived in MEL this afternoon at 1741 hours, 471 minutes late.

Earlier, VH-VKI took off from MEL at 1704 on the timetabled 1430 hours MEL to CGO (JQ67), so arrival should be at about 0117 hours, 122 late on Sunday 28.

JQ35 (the afternoon 1745 hours from MEL to DPS) was cancelled, so not a great day for JQi ex the southern capital.

VH-VKJ remains impounded in KIX, as has been the case since 29 March 2019. Read earlier posts as to why. It is impossible for JQ to operate all its timetabled international flights with this aircraft unexpectedly inoperable.

On Sunday 28 April, JQ7, the 1110 hours twice weekly MEL - SIN is again cancelled, as will be JQ8 returning to MEL.

Was at a meeting in HKT this week and knew a number of pax taking the delayed JQ18. I think the feeling was if it was delayed to 4:30am, might as well have a couple more hours delay to get some sleep. Hope they rescheduled the HKT departure again once aircraft took off from MEL so they could get half a nights sleep.

dajop, I couldn't agree more whenever aircraft are delayed like this, but as we all know or surmise, regrettably it tends not to work like this, because if the airline has timetable problems due to an aircraft failing, it often wants the delayed one back to base as fast as possible.

FR24 tells me that on Tuesday night/ Wednesday morning, JQ18 unfortunately took off from HKT at 0431 hours, a most unfriendly time for passengers (and staff). From memory 0300 to 0400 is the worst hour for employees falling asleep (even though in theory the crew would be 'bright eyed...')

While not unusual as social media attracts more complaints than compliments about companies, JQ is copping some heat from travellers unsure as to why international flights are being cancelled so often. If they viewed this site, they'd have a better idea.

??? Am confused. We were talking about last night’s flight not Tuesday night. Last nights flight departed around 6:21am this morning . Whilst I know (and most on AFF would know) airlines do want to get plane back as quick as possible, I certainly hope that once the plane departed MEL it was rescheduled again to a realistic time.

My colleagues had original reachedule to around 4:30am. If the inbound aircraft departed MEL at 2343, JQ would know wouldn’t arrive at HKT until around 5 am. I expect as a result the return fight would have been rescheduled again (Flightaware suggest it was - to 5:55), which would be better for pax and crew.

No need for 'confusion', but sorry, I'd incorrectly assumed because you said 'meeting this week' that there had been a gap of a few days between that and today.

FR24 informs me that the errant JQ17 arrived HKT at about 0440, so let's hope as you say passengers received many hours' notice and hence were able to have better sleep. There was no way it was going to depart HKT before about 0550 that as you suggest became 0555 hours in pushing back.
 
JQ110 0725 Perth to Denpasar Sunday 28 April has been cancelled. From Jetstar (email at 0442): “Due to crewing requirements your flight JQ110 28/04/2019 from Perth to Denpasar has been cancelled”
