Jetstar Delays/Cancellations

Further to the above JQ17 has now been pushed back( cancelled in my eyes) until tomorrow with "engineering issues" JQ 18 will now leave (maybe) at 12.55am on 23rd. Typical Jetstar. Every JQ17 flight this week has either been severely delayed or not flown at all. Pathetic

Great post (though not great outcome for passengers).

We ought all be wary of generalisations but from observation, it seems of the Australian airports from which it operates international flights, JQ's worst performance is out of Melbourne (although I tend to miss some delays/cancellations in CNS and perhaps DRW).

Pay peanuts...(not that its fares are always super cheap).

Melbourne Airport's website hasn't caugfht up with your information. It claims that JQ17 was 'cancelled' at 1930 hours tonight (21 May). It doesn't appear to show JQ17 tomorrow ex MEL for HKT.

Meanwhile the JQ flight status website shows JQ17 as departing at 1745 hours (presumably this afternoon). It then refers in the next section to tomorrow's JQ8035 (which is a codeshare for the A388 operating QF35 MEL to SIN at 1155 hours) and a connecting 3K flight to HKT.

What time tomorrow is JQ17 supposed to depart?

From Jetstar: Flight JQ18 21MAY19 from coughet is further delayed and will now depart at 12:55am on 23MAY19. Check-in closes at 11:55pm 22MAY19. Jetstar apologises

Text I received tonight so can only assume it will be around 4.40pm AEST
Agree re Melbourne airport, I think it's one of the worst I have used, almost every flight out or in is delayed, normally due to high traffic numbers. Desperately need another runway
Re JQ17 leaving tomorrow, I have my doubts so have jumped on JQ28 back to Sydney, then onto Melb. Hopefully with more luck!!!???

On Wednesday 22 May 2019, B788 VH-VKK is transferring from SYD down to MEL as JQ8997, having taken off at 1044 so arrival should be at roughly 1159 hours.

In addition to the overnight delay to JQ17 (MEL up to HKT) and the expected 140 minute departure delay to SIN-bound JQ7, JQ35 ex MEL for DPS is cancelled today, as is the return redeye JQ36.

JQ18 from HKT was timetabled to arrive in MEL (ex HKT) at 0950 hours but is predicted to arrive on Thursday 23 May at 1225 hours, a staggering 1715 minutes behind schedule.

JQ1, the 1545 hours mid afternoon MEL - HNL flagship has been altered to depart at 2130 this evening, meaning a substantial delay for JQ2 passengers waiting in Honolulu.

While Braammaabull was referring in the previous post to delays at MEL as a whole, the problems JQi has at MEL are all too commonplace.

JQ17 further delayed again today. Those in coughet waiting JQ18 will be starting to look for other options as any faith in Jetstar would be seriously diminishing
JQ 27 left Sydney on time( Melbourne get their blueprint)
VH-VKH left Melbourne under the banner JQ8991 at 14.41 heading unknown but looks to be headed towards Hong Kong maybe for maintenance
Jetstars whole 787 fleet are a shambles
They either need more planes or need to service less routes internationally. The Delays are getting worse and cancellations becoming a weekly occurrence at best

Braammaabull, your view is in agreement with long term AFFer MEL_Traveller who has repeatedly suggested that JQ may be unable to operate all its timetabled flights with its present number of B788s.

It's very hard for any of us to test that hypothesis. It would be denied by JQ management, but I couldn't agree more. The number of cancellations and delays it has is unacceptably high.

Perhaps JQ's business model is that there are so many 'suckers' ought there that it doesn't care if travellers use it once internationally and then don't return, because they're replaced by the next group of passengers trying to save money. (Sometimes the latter isn't true when one considers luggage and meal fees and any other ancillary charges).

Those waiting in HKT for JQ18 have the problem that every travel insurer I've ever known has an excess even if it accepts a claim. I assume JQ in this case does not give travellers other options (such as a domestic to BKK and then QF24 down to SYD) because it is still providing an (albeit much delayed) aircraft.

Believe it or not JQ17 VH-VKG is on the runway ready for takeoff at 8.18pm AEST landing in coughet at approx 1.35am Thai time. JQ18 and it's frustrated passengers can expect takeoff around 3am just under a 29hr delay. WOW!!!

For your sanity, I hope you are not one of them. I'm not offering to swap places if you are.

Delays of this extent on any transport mode are frustrating but the travellers I feel sorriest for are parents with babies or young children, and the elderly, particularly if the latter have health problems.

The very bright lights of airport terminals (for those not entitled to lounge access) don't help.

The aircraft, VH-VKG as you mentioned arrived in MEL this afternoon (22 May) at 1623 hours ex HKG as empty ('ferry') flight JQ9992 ex HKG, where it must have undergone maintenance.

I jumped ship and moved to JQ28. Longer way home but no faith JQ17 would ever arrive. JQ28 expected to touch down 22min early at 20:23
Cheers

The appalling delays in and out of MEL continue for JQi users.

On Wednesday 23 May 2019, JQ29, the 1305 hours lunchtime ME:L - BKK is delayed to an expected amended departure time of 2130 mid evening. Passengers in BKK waiting for JQ30 of tomorrow evening will similarly have to cool their heels, one would hope in an STPC hotel room.

JQ2, the 1455 hours arrival in MEL from HNL should be at its arrival gate at 2010, so it may be forming 'the 29.'

VH-VKB on JQ44 ex DPS arrived in MEL tonight at 2151 hours, 111 minutes late.
