Jetstar Delays/Cancellations

Also during coronavirus, JQ576, the Sunday 14 June 1605 hours MEL up to BNE (A320 VH-VGA) took off at 1715 hours, arriving an hour late at 1910. It formed JQ577, the 1850 hours back down to MEL, airborne at 1959. This flight should arrive at around 2210 hours, 55 minutes behind its timetable. This return trip were the only flights operated by this plane today. It was not used at all on 11 and 12 June.

On Monday 22 June 2020, the 0800 hours MEL up to BNE JQ560 was in the sky at 0843 with A320 VH-VFK. Arrival was 31 minutes tardy at 1036 hours. The return flight JQ563 was on blocks in MEL at 1343, 33 late. Notr sure why the outbound was delayed as the aircraft had overnighted in MEL. Air traffic is a bit busier tahn two weeks ago but still very quiet compared with normality prior to COVID-19.

Today's suggestion from the NSW Premier not to visit Victoria and the Qld Premier considering what to do about the Victorian spike in cases won't assist airlines to benefit from 'recovering' demand for travel. On top of that half a dozen Melbourne municipalities have been said by authorities in Victoria to be hotspots for community transmission.

Wednesday 1 July 2020 has seen JQ502, an 0850 hours MEL - SYD. cancelled. NSW is discouraging travel to and from MEL with warnings that anyone who travels to or from identified Melbourne 'hotspots' faces up to six months in jail or a hefty fine. These sanctions would be difficult to enforce or prosecute.

JQ510, the 1315 hours ex MEL on the same route also got the bullet. So has JQ522, the early evening 1815 hours.

Sunday 5 July 2020 has seen JQ503, first domestic flight of any operator at a projected 0630 hours from SYD down to MEL cancelled, as was the later 1100 hours on the same route, JQ515.

JQ761, an ADL - SYD due to arrive at 0850 hours in the morning also got the flick. Later, JQ767, another ADL - SYD due in at 1420 is also not to run.

The MEL - SYD 1315 hours, JQ510 is another cancellation. Earlier, JQ502, the 0855 hours MEL - SYD was also flicked.

Victorians are no longer able to travel to NSW from midnight tonight (even though the border doesn't 'shut' for a further 24 hours) as the health directive differs from the border closure announcement.

JQ510 and JQ522, respectively the 1315 and 1815 hours Tuesday 7 July MEL to SYD flights have been cancelled. This wasn't the case when I'd checked at about 1700 this afternoon.

JQ515 (1100 hours SYD to MEL and JQ525 (mid evening 2020 hours on the same route from SYD) are not surprisingly also flicked.

With the NSW/Victoria border closure commencing, on Wednesday 8 July 2020, JQ500, the early morning 0630 hours MEL - SYD has got the axe, as has JQ520, the 1715 hours departure on the same route.

Further cancellations are apparent for Thursday 9 July 2020, the second day of the Greater Melbourne plus Mitchell Shire 42 day lockdown.

JQ500, thye 0630 hours MEL - SYD again will not run. Nor will JQ520 at 1715 hours, also a MEL - SYD.

In more for Thursday 9 July 2020, JQ514, the mid afternoon 1500 hours MEL - SYD also got the boot.

The last domestic flight tonight for any airline by a margin of a scheduled 75 minutes, JQ530 (2045 hours MEL - SYD) is also cancelled. Both these cancellations have occurred since I checked the situation yesterday.

One of the most unusual 'delays' I've ever seen is for reopening of the NSW/Queensland border at 1200 'high noon' on Friday 10 July 2020:

(from 'The Australian' online Thursday 9 July):

'Airline passengers arriving into Brisbane prior to Friday’s midday reopening of the Queensland border will be required to remain at the airport until noon.

Only essential travellers or returning residents will be allowed out prior to midday, meaning a 4.5-hour wait for passengers of Qantas flight QF500 from Sydney, and a 3.5-hour wait for Virgin Australia passengers on flight VA909.

Jetstar has pushed back its morning flight out of Sydney, so it arrives at 12.10pm rather than 7.40pm.

Restrictions do not apply to arrivals from intrastate airports.'

With the NSW/Victorian border closed, Saturday 11 July 2020 has seen JQ521, the 1715 hours SYD down to MEL cancelled.

This morning, an 0840 hours on the same route, JQ507, also got the boot, as did JQ513, the 1500 hours mid afternoon.

This left JQd with just one SYD - MEL flight, JQ511 at 1315 hours.

JQ420, the 1010 hours morning SYD up to OOL did not depart until 1310, taking off at 1332 hours with A320 VH-VGP. Arrival was 188 minutes late at 1438.

The aircraft ha arrived in SYD at 1219 hours, 11 early on JQ814 ex holiday destination PPP, so it must have been substituting for another on the SYD - OOL return trips.

JQ407, the 1210 hours OOL back down to SYD took off at 1427, arriving at a projected 1641, 186 late.

The SYD - BNK JQ460 at 1430 hours mid afternoon was airborne at 1538 with VH-VFP, so arrioval should be at around the 1641 hours mark, 56 minutes behind the timetable.

I know this isnt the right thread, but doubt there is one anyway so I will try.

Is JQ Adelaide - Cairns direct flight JQ 960 and 963 frequently cancelled and instead flights booked via other cities then to Cairns? It matters greatly with closed borders from SA. Currently the direct flight is fine, but in SA a transit is considered the same as travelling in the state so an iso quarantine and two Covid tests are needed if we even touch at either Sydney or Tullamarine airport.

Pushka, I prefer to call this a 'nonstop' flight as apparently in the travel industry, 'direct' can mean 'same aircraft but with (a) stop(s) en route.'

Looking at a couple of third party tracking sites, I can't see that JQ960 has operated since late March 2020. (Apologies for rather unhelpful reply).

On Monday 13 July 2020, JQ944, the 0615 hours MEL - CNS will be cancelled, as later in the day will JQ950, a mid afternoon 1450 hours on the same route, plus JQ916 an hour later to CNS tourism rival TSV. No happiness for the cash registers of FNQ tourism there.

Tuesday 14 July 2020 has a few JQ cancellations from MEL, including JQ944, the early morning 0615 hours up to CNS, JQ705 at 1310 hours to HBA, JQ950 at 1450 hours mid afternoon (also to CNS), JQ576 (1720 hrs to BNE) and JQ776, the 1820 hours dinner time across to ADL.

Amazingly this leaves JQd with just one timetabled departure from Melbourne Tullamarine tomorrow, the 1100 hours latish morning to SYD (JQ506).

Pre COVID-19, I don't recall a day when JQ had no flights (possible exception: QFd and therefore JQd 2011 lockout).

On Sunday 19 July 2020, JQ824, the 1430 hours mid afternoon SYD - BNE is expected to depart 45 late at 1515.

JQd has 14 domestic flights timetabled ex SYD today, but only one is to MEL given the border ban on Victorians travelling north, and recommendation that NSW residents do not visit Victoria.

JQ788, a Wednesday 22 July 2020 scheduled afternoon SYD - ADL at 1555 hours has been cancelled.

This leaves JQd with a total of 14 scheduled domestic flights from Sydney Airport tomorrow, and interestingly only three from MEL.

Wednesday 22 July 2020 saw JQ410, the 1400 hours SYD - OOL not become airborne until 1503 hours. A320 VH-VGZ arrived at 1614 hours, 54 minutes tardy.

The return flight JQ423 (the 1600 hours) took off at 1706 with suggested SYD arrival at 1815 to be 50 late.

These were the only flights for this aircraft today so I'm unsure why it was tardy.

On Thursday 23 July 2020 during coronavirus, JQ768, the 1555 hours SYD to ADL was cancelled. However the morning 1130 hours departure, JQ764, operated. Owner QF cancelled its two SYD - ADL timetabled flights today so the 'group' will only have a single flight on this route today.

Friday 24 July 2020 saw JQ735, the 1035 hours midmorning MEL down to LST not depart (its second try) until 1319 hours, arriving at 1412 hours, 257 minutes late. A320 VH-VFK may have initially been unable to land in LST - I assume 'fog' - so may have had to return to MEL.

The return flight, JQ754 was to BNE not MEL, taking off from the Tasmanian 'northern capital' at 1458 (against a 1215 schduled pushback) and arriving in the Sunshine State's capital airport at 1719 hours, 164 minutes behind the timetable.

JQ500, tomorrow morning's (25 July 2020) 0630 hours MEL up to SYD has received the axe. JQ506 at 1100 ex MEL remains operating. The last domestic flight of any operator for the day departs MEL tomorrow (Saturday afternoon) at 1400 hours, a situation that was inconceivable in say July 2019.
