Jetstar Delays/Cancellations

JQ119 is again delayed on Monday 17 January with departure expected 80 minutes late at 1030.

The Sunday 16 flight arrived NAN at 1604, 104 minutes late after taking off only about 90 minute slate at 1056. Aircraft was A320 VH-VGO that arrived back in SYD as JQ120 at 2036, 66 minutes behind the timetable.
 
Whether from lack of passenger bookings or COVD-19 isolation rules meaning fewer cabin crew or pilots are available, Monday 24 January 2022's cancellation of the first three JQd flights from SYD - JQ603 to Avalon at 0600 hours, JQ745 to LST at the same time and JQ503 to MEL at 0620 shows the parlous state of domestic aviation.

JQ950 to CNS at 0630 and JQ456 to BNK at 0640 were also cancelled, meaning that in the hour to 0659 this morning, only one JQd ex-SYD flight, JQ786 to MCY at 0625 hours ran as timetabled.

Every Premier apart from NSW's has much to answer for, conditioning us all during the past 22 months to expect sudden closures of state borders, quarantine requirements or other curbs that see many of us disinclined to travel interstate.

This hasn't just cost QF and competitors hundreds of millions of dollars, but has also led even where airline staff are employed to fewer overall shifts being available, meaning those who'd normally receive allowances have fewer of those. It also hits suppliers to transport operators hard.
 
Thursday 27 January 2022 will find JQ17, the mid afternoon 1520 hours MEL - HKT, cancelled.

In an article on the Simple Flying site, it was suggested that passenger numbers for QFi flights 23/24 SYD-BKK and return have been poor, so it's probable the same malaise is affecting JQi. Too much uncertainty. I haven't asked everyone I know, but from a small sample, everyone is deferring any international travel until (at least?) 2023.
 
On Friday 28 January 2022, JQ7 (1325 hours early afternoon MEL - SIN, B788 VH-VKG) had not taken off by 1500 hours.

Weather in Melbourne, including around MEL, has been extremely stormy with domestic flights having to hold and hence starting to arrive half an hour or more late.

A while back on AFF I remarked it was only in summer in Melbourne that weather gave much trouble to householders with flooding/overflowing gutters and so on. jb747 filled me in and said only at that time of year do storms have sufficient energy to be (my words) ferocious or troubling, an excellent reply that correlated with my layman's experience.
 
On Monday 31 January, the first five JQd flights scheduled to depart SYD have been cancelled: JQ501 and JQ603 (both at 0600) to respectively MEL and AVV; JQ400 five minutes later to ool; JQ810 at 0610 hours to BNE and JQ503 at 0620 hours down to MEL.

While JQ786 at 0625 from SYD bound for MCY will operate, the next two JQd flights (760 and 950 at 0630 hours to ADL and CNS) will not, and nor will the next scheduled pushback, JQ456 at 0640 hours up to popular BNK.

Tourists travelling by air may be thin in number compared with pre-COVID times (a fading memory!) but those prepared to still travel may not like rising at 0330-0400 for an 0600 hours departure. Either that or many JQd staff are in 'iso' (to use a word a few of us may be heartily sick of).
 
On Monday 31 January 2022, JQ37 (0805 hours morning flight from SYD up to DPS) was cancelled.

I've not monitored SYD's site or JQi's every day but JQi can't have been operating to DPS for long.

The SYD - AKL JQ203 (the 1940 hours) also received the flick. Not many would be eligible to travel on TransTasman flights.

JQ27, the Wednesday 2 February SYD - HKT at a departure time of 1505 hours was cancelled, as was JQ203 SYD - AKL, the 1930 hours early evening.

SYD - BKK - SYD bookings on QF23/24 are apparently often very poor, so unsurprising that JQi may be suffering the same.
 
On Saturday 5 February, JQ27, the mid afternopon 1505 SYD - HKT is again cancelled, probably due to poor loadings.

JQ201 at 0900 this morning (SYD across to AKL) also got the boot. Not many are eligible to travel TransTasman.
 
Not for the first time, JQ119 (0900 hours SYD up to NAN) was cancelled today. FJ and QFi operated their flights but VA cancelled its. I have read that the requirements for a 'holiday' in Fiji are very bureaucratic so that may be dissauding bookings, especially given February is apparently not the best month weather-wise and it's no longer school holidays.

JQ37 (1640 hours SYD up to DPS) has also got the flick.

JQ203, the 1930 hours tonight SYD across to AKL was another repeat cancellation.
 
Perhaps due to the very heavy rainfall at SYD - 85mm in less than 14 hours - JQ523 is expected to arrive in AVV at 2335, 55 minutes tardy. Aircraft is A430 VH-VFT.
 
On Monday 14 March 2022, the first MEL - DPS JQ43 flight departed 83 minutes late at 1118 with B788 VH-VKI, so suggested arrival is 1342 hours, 57 minutes late.

Returning, perhaps because the first flight requires more rest time for crew, the 'initial' return (JQ44) doesn't depart DPS until 2230 hours late tomorrow night.

On Monday 27 March 2022, JQ43 (1010 hours MEL - DPS) took off at 1115 with B788 VH-VKL. Arrival should be at 1412 hours, 57 minutes late.
 
Given the downpours in Sydney yesterday and today it's unsurprising that many flights have been badly delayed. Unfortunately with domestic flights especially, delays tend to compound, depending on the required 'rotations'.

On Thursday 7 April 2022, JQ3 (B788 VH-VKK), the 1630 hours afternoon SYD - HNL was in the sky at 1802 with arrival same day suggested as 0704 hours, 64 minutes behind schedule.

The next JQi departure, timetabled only 10 minutes after JQ3 was 'the 37' to recently 'reopened' DPS, featuring VH-VKI that took off with a remarkably similar delay at 1808 hours. Forecast arrival is 2159 hours, 54 minutes tardy.
 
With tomorrow Palm Sunday and thus less than a week until the peak travel period of Easter, and also today and tomorrow's Melbourne Grand Prix, there's a lot of late flights on Saturday 9 April morning out of SYD.

JQ762 (0650 hours SYD - ADL, A320 VH-YXT) was airborne at 0851 with arrival suggested as 1002 hours, 97 minutes late.

JQ456 (0705 hours SYD - BNK) was cancelled.

Maybe some of this unpunctuality is due to the overreach of various State Governments, such as in Victoria, where deemed 'close contacts' of those who catch the novel coronavirus must still isolate for a week. This must be affecting the availability of staff in service sectors like transport.
There's understandable pressure from businesses for these restrictions to be scrapped, which would be sensible given the viruses are endemic.

Shortages of security staff and baggage handlers is also reportedly a problem, as publicised by media yesterday and today, with queues forming at SYD and MEL.

JQ3, the Monday 11 April 2022 SYD - HNL timetabled to push back at the latish afternoon time of 1630 hours has been delayed overnight. It should depart at the unattractive time of 0140 hours on Wednesday 13., meaning at least a 33 hour delay.
