oneworld - News

Jetstar, Australia's award-winning low fares airline, is to participate in some of the most popular fares offered by oneworld®, the leading quality airline alliance, extending their coverage of Australasia further still.

From 1 February, flights operated by the Australia-based Jetstar (JQ) and sold under its code-share arrangement with oneworld member Qantas (QF) will be available through the market-leading oneworld Explorer round-the-world fare and oneworld Circle Pacific, Circle Asia and South West Pacific and Circle Trip Explorer multi-continent packages. Qantas code-shares on virtually every Jetstar flight, so this arrangement covers almost the full schedule of Jetstar Australia and New Zealand operations.

Q

Possibly some cheap SC runs now with the QF flight number on operated JQ flights?

Whilst a confusing release - eg "Jetstar is the Asia Pacific region's leading low fares airline"

Only appears to cover JQ flights, not 3K.

So SIN-MEL and all flights within Aus, NZ and TT -- yes
but
SIN-AKL and all intra-Asia flights from SIN and HCM -- no

still - effectively gets most of Jetstar into oneworld by stealth.

Glad it's still on the QF flight number so you get points and meals/comfort pack on board included.

I wonder what the fare bucket availability for each of the oneworld fare types will be JQ. For example, a oneworld Explorer in economy uses L; what for JQ? Similarly, if you book a oneworld Explorer in D, does that mean you'll get a starclass seat and benefits?

As for the food, beverage, amenities, baggage allowance etc. being provided on select flights, coupled with the fact JQ is a low cost carrier ("low fares" is merely a more palatable synonym), I can foresee a lot of disappointed passengers, particularly those not familiar with the airline.

Well, it will be on the QF codeshare, so presumably whatever Qantas use (D or L as appropriate I guess). Qantas will need to update their earnings table in this case, as neither earn points on the codeshare

Under Qantas
Excluded: Points and Status Credits are not earned on Qantas codeshare flights (ie flights with a QF flight number) operated by Jetstar other than in Economy classes of B, H, K or Y.

Under Jetstar
Excluded: Points and Status Credits are not earned when travelling in the Economy Cabin on flights with a Jetstar (JQ), Jetstar Asia (3K) or Valuair (VF) flight number as part of a Qantas International fare or on Qantas codeshare flights (ie with a QF flight number) operated by Jetstar other than in Qantas Economy booking classes of B, H, K or Y.

There seem to be plenty of reports of people on QF codeshares not getting meals, IIRC.

Domestic flights - No meals
International Redemption booking flights (x class) - No Meals
All other codeshare flights on international services, you get a meal.

That needs to be made very clear. I can see a lot of confusion here, more streaming from the ground level (i.e. at the point of human interfacing), with staff inadequately trained to handle the "exceptions" and perhaps the wrong codes or missing codes given to allow those on eligible fares to collect normally-paid-for features as inclusive. Unless JQ change their policies.

There's also no indication in the press release about earning points unless it is only select flexible fares. You could get a oneworld product and earn no points on the JQ sections. Now that would be plentifully annoying.

From the way I read it will simply mean a QF codeshare on all Aus JQ flights with potential availability in L (maybe D for starclass).

This class will be points earning on most oneworld airlines as well as a class that gets meals.

I would expect QFF T&Cs to be updated on 1 Feb

The release doesn't say anything about points etc on any other JQ flight, whether booked as a QF codeshare or not.

What do you mean? From the press release

press release said:
Members of any oneworld airline frequent flyer programme can earn mileage rewards on eligible flights using these fares - including on sectors using Jetstar (see notes) - and enjoy all the privileges to which their membership status entitles them.
