Jetstar Platinum MasterCard 40k points $69 first year annual fee

Today's the last day to apply for this card. I just submitted my application - my 3rd cc application in the past 5 months. I'm a bit nervous as I've never applied for so many before!

3 isn't many. I've had 3 with the same bank in the one year. If your credit history and ability to repay are fine, you'll have no problems.

How long has it been taking people to get their bonus points?

Received my card 16 Dec, put ~$5000 of waiting bills on it in first week (nearly maxxing out its $5.3k credit limit). First statement period closed off yesterday, the ~5000 points and 40,000 bonus points in my QFF activity statement this morning. Can't complain about that.

Received mine in the mail today. I had a very drawn out application period (over a month ago). They couldn't contact my employer (??) and simply asked for a further pay slip to be submitted. I didn't hear a thing for over a week and suddenly it arrives in the mail. Now, the spend.

I also liked it that it was $1 for 1 qantas point. In Tassie they don't like accepting Amex Cards only Visa or Mastercards.

To be honest I don't think it's just Tassie that don't like Amex cards. I find it about 50/50 acceptance with Amex all over Australia. In relation to applying for multiple cards I recently posted this on another thread in this forum. My aim is to get 560,000 plus points for 2 round the world business class seats in 2017.

I have been busy applying for new credit cards with bonus points for signing on. I've done this before but for some unknown reason (annual fees?) I used my wife as an additional card holder instead of applying for her own card for double bonus points.

I have just cancelled our CBA amex cards because of the 1: 1.25 earning power.

Anyway if it all comes off I will have an additional 480,000 bonus points in my account by mid year.

NAB 180,000 - they sent my wife 2 cards (an online application timed out part way through but they still sent the card)

ANZ 100,000 - the best part of these cards is no annual fees in the first year. I kind of regret not trying for the 75,000 point card despite not qualifying for the income test

Jetstar 40,000 - we have this card already and I like it for several reasons. My wife is an additional cardholder and I thought we would apply for a card in her name. Not sure how that will work out.

Qantas Amex - this current offer is way too good to ignore. 80,000 bonus points x 2 and 2 Qantas lounge passes. The only downside being 1:1 point earning power. I'll delay applying for this until late February to give time for the qualifying spending part on the other cards.

The hard part will be spending the required amount in the timeframe although the NAB card spend is quite low.

You need to work out if the bonus points outweigh paying about $250 in annual fees but in ANZ's case there is no annual fee so that's a no brainer.

Hope this helps.

Your process was certainly more speedy than mine! It took about five weeks from when I reached the $3k spend mark until the bonus points appeared.

I applied for a credit limit increase for my JQ MC last month (I wanted a massive increase - from $5.3k to $10k).

I received this letter today

"Dear coriander

We refer to your recent request to increase your credit limit on your Jetstar Credit card account.

Unfortunately, we are unable to approve your request at this time as you do not meet our credit criteria. If your personal circumstances change, we will reassess our decision."

Bizarre. I received an ANZ Black card in 5 days with a $35k limit without even asking for that high a limit. I had previously cancelled another two cards that each had $25k limits, so it wasn't as if I was overextending myself .

I'm essentially debt-free and have never missed any payments to anyone in 42 years of professional activity.

That's bizarre indeed - How long have you held the JQ MC?

I'm in a similar spot as I've also got a Macquarie issued card (the HHonors platinum) with a credit limit of $5.3k, which seems to be the minimum for Macquarie issued platinum cards. I will be applying for a limit increase in a few months time, and your experience doesn't make me too optimistic.

Since December. I've already put over $15k on it, but have to keep paying money into the account so I don't go over my limit. It's the only card I 've got that pays 1:1 on Visa or MC.

I'm pretty sure most credit card companies want you to have held the card in good standing order for at least 6 months before they will consider an increase.

Yep, I know this is definitely the case with HSBC.

I got my HHonors card in August, and like coriander I've put a fair bit of my spending on it since - I'm hoping they will send me an invite to increase the limit in coming months, but if not will apply for an increase myself.

I reached my $3k spend 6 weeks ago and am still waiting!! I'm thinking about the Qantas Amex with the 80,000 point bonus next.

Thanks for this. Excellent news.

I believe this has around the lowest annual fee ($69 for the first year & $149 ongoing) for a card that earns 1 Qantas point per $ spent (limited to 100,000 points per year).

There is also the Qantas Credit Union Visa Platinum card that earns 1 point per $ spent @ $195pa.

What other alternatives are out there with a lowish annual fee (earning 1 point per $ spent)??

My CitiBusiness Visa card gets its points earning almost halved from 1.25 to 0.75 points per dollar spent on the 18th of this month .............. so it looks like it is time to change cards.

I have gone down the path of Bankwest Qantas Platinum. No forex commission, 0.75 point per $1, then you beg for an upgrade to Bankwest Qantas World, which gives you 1 point per $1.

But there's no decent sign on bonus with this card at the moment.

Jetstar Platinum MasterCard

This is definitely a decent point offering for a relatively low fee.

I had this card recently and closed the account towards the end of 2015. I then had the $99 for 40,000 point Macquarie card offering.

May go back for this re-offering before it closes.

I know, but there was no promo on this Jetstar card a few weeks before, and I needed a new card before Citi moves the goal post. They are moving goal post next week, I don't want to leave it to this late.

According to this forum thread, the current cost is $220pa. Is this what you are paying?

Added: I just had an online chat with Bankwest. The normal process to move up to the invitation only Bankwest World Mastercard is to hold the Bankwest Platinum Mastercard for a minimum of 6 months & your credit limit minimum for the Platinum Mastercard must be $12,000.
