I Just Surfed the Jetstar website & found out that on Jetstar "Plus" Bundle for a short haul domestic flight (Ie MEL > ADL or SYD > MEL) now costs $24.00 to add to a booking.

Previously the "Plus" Bundle cost $19.00 to add for a short haul flight & less than 12 months ago the "Plus" Bundle cost $17.00 to add.

However, I note that now included with the domestic "Plus" bundle is a $5.00 F & B credit to be used inflight, whereas this was not previously the case.

So I put it to the people is this a Clever ancillary Revenue raising tactic by Jetstar, considering most people who use the $5.00 F & B credit will likely spend over this amount, or will this lead many Frequent Flyers not to consider using The "Plus" bundle as the cost outweighs the benefits for short haul flights?

The Increase in the "Plus" Bundle is also evident on Long Haul Flights ( ie SYD > HNL) with the "Plus" bundle rising from $50.00 less than 12 months ago to $55.00 & now has increased to $59.00 on this sector. Note no F & B voucher provided as a hot meal is still included like the bundle stipulated previously.

For the Serious Status Credit Chasing Frequent Flyers, I note that to add "Max" to the Business Bundle (Which earn Points & Status credits at Business Class rates has remained the same at $200.00 for a flight of this length (Ie SYD > HNL).

I guess not many pax payed for their terrible coffee on board so they decided to force them to buy it :)

I guess they are hedging their bets that people spend more than $5 and also that they do not use the voucher at all there by getting an extra $5 to $10.

A quick look for a couple of dates over Christmas show it is cheaper to fly Qantas in some instance or slightly ($10-$20) more expensive depending on time of day.

I'd have thought simply offering free basic (non-alco) drinks would be a simpler solution, but I do see where they're going with this. I remember reading the QF Group slides this morning and seeing the bit about JQ pax slowly paying more ancillary revenue (pg. 13). So I do wonder if the accounting of this change will find it's way to making it appear as if their pax are paying even more, when it's not actually be choice (and might even go unused)?

Luckily, prices seem to be acceptable, having had a look at their menu in their magazine, with all non-alcoholic drinks and snacks coming in under $5. So I'm sure in a year they'll announce they've had such massive growth in ancillary revenue, and it's been so popular than they'll be doing something similar on QF ;)

Not that it would be such a bad idea though if you think about it (minus paying for extras), they could roll Select on Q-Eat to domestic out, allowing you to choose your "snack" and "drink" choice before checking-in. But I'm going off topic ;)

I was actually quite surprised at the amount of ancillary revenue JQ claim to be making per passenger - now more than $30! (I didn't pay much more than that for a ticket last time I flew with them.) Changes like this will certainly help.

Management probably knows that a certain amount of vouchers will go unused and of the vouchers that are used, how many will spend exactly $5? Most people will either spend less (or nothing), and JQ pockets the remainder, or more, in which case the pax will need to cough up more money. Win, win for JQ really!

Also really depends how you get the voucher, will it be a code on the BP? Does that then mean they confiscate your BP? What if you need to keep the BP incase the flight doesn't credit etc ;)

Having it on the BP would make it too easy! Knowing JQ, it will probably be as difficult as possible to redeem ;)

Has anybody come across this when trying to add a plus bundle on Jetstar sale fares?

It seems as though points and sc aren't offered on the cheapest fare? You can however pay the $203 Airfare and earn points.

I just checked and get the same result.
Selecting View Plus Bundle Rules shows that you should earn points and SC.
Selecting the next fare up and the bundle also increases in price.

Checking a HBA-MEL flight the sale fares show points and SC earned.

I flew JQ a couple of weeks ago and fare was purchased just before the F&B voucher came in.
On the flight I was told I had $5 to spend if I wished.
Never got the chance to see if it was offered on the return flight due to turbulance with the F&B cart making a stop at no more than the first couple of rows.

Old thread, but Jetstar Asia has now un-enhanced the meal with the bundles. Instead of the $xx voucher, we will now be forced fed a meal just like how things used to be a year ago. They probably had enough of me getting 2 cans of beer with the vouchers every time on the longer regional flights. No changes with the AU JQ though, it seems.

Is there a term for an "un-enhancement"?

Common sense perhaps?
