clifford, I doubt that it is just I that 'has a problem with AirAsia.'

I acknowledge that perceptions can be subjective if one is just a passenger, but there are also very serious incidents such as this:

Doomed AirAsia plane flew 78 times between Perth and Bali with fault for 12 months - ABC News (Australian Broadcasting Corporation)

Also note that one of our aviator contributors has a similar view in respect of AirAsia being an airline to avoid. That's concerning, because one would hope he is being objective.

To be fair to clifford he specifically mentioned Air Asia, not its various other incarnations such as Air Asia Indonesia.

I did hear that anyone who is reasonably well off or in the government in Indonesia only fly GA or foreign airlines because of where the pilots come from. Apparently GA have much more well educated experienced pilots, many out of the military. Others come via training schools ... not sure if true or not but have heard it a couple of times.

You seem to have a problem with Air Asia. Perhaps you could provide us with some statistics showing how AK (not including FD, QZ, D7 or any of the other franchisees) compares unfavourably with other airlines, safety wise.

The simple rule is, do not get onto any metal which flies Indonesian flag. Well, unless you want to claim death insurance. No, not even Garuda Indonesia.

Tough decision if you have to choose between Indonesian flag safety, and Airasia inexperienced pilots who break up their aircraft by flying through CBs. Passengers voting JQ worst airline is like comparing car safety by the comfort of the seats.

I'm back in the US for the first time in about 18 months. Now I remember how cough the flying experience can really be - I miss Jetstar, or at the very least Jetstar Asia .... (OK with one exception, was upgraded out of LGA on AC - but whilst north american they are not US carrier). The whole experience frazzles the nerves. I am so spoilt with my home carrier (SQ) but honestly I'd struggle to rate Jetstar lower than for example UA domestic/regional.

For sure, we just take our private Lear jets anyway, mainly to keep away from the riff-raff.

Beyond that, if you want to go beyond Jakarta or Denpasar, good luck to finding something without an Indonesian flag.
But, of course, I would sense that some people would not want to go beyond Jakarta or Denpasar, possibly not even there.
Their loss.

Pilot competence and maintenance standards are not visible to passengers unless something clearly goes wrong.
Passengers understandably vote on service, and in this even Wings Air better JetStar as far as I am concerned.
