Not necessarily. This is a 90th anniversary promotion, although not 90th anniversary of the QP, it’s still something they were probably thinking about for a while, or 18 months ago, and isn’t terribly big, after all it’s only 90 hours.

And don’t forget QF re-looked at the anytime access and amended it slightly.

Call it bad luck or coincidence, but the timing for this promotion isn't great so soon after all the program change announcements.

All these changes to the FFP would also have been in the works for a LONG time I'm sure.. although maybe I'm not so sure. Someone at Qantas could have just woken up and thought.. hey, I want to take away benefits, that will save money!

I guess it would've been worse to have this promotion before the FFP changes, THAT might really get the blood boiling!

I am wondering whether the reason to add more Qantas Silvers and adding more Qantas Club members is so that more people can be issued the cards for NGCI.

Maybe Qantas have ordered a 500,000 tags and realized there is only 400,000 members that would qualify so they make more people silver and are now selling Qantas Club at a discount.

Anyone got an idea how much these new tags cost individually.

Like anything you can buy in China; 1 is $1,000 buy 1,000 is $10,000 but buy 1,000,000 then they are $1,00 each.

Yep, and the piece limit is so they know how many tags to give you.

What QC should do is to sell day passes then I will start thinking about it. Of course most of the people here would kill me to even suggest this idea

I want to see what happens to the tags when they take on the conveyor belts and lose. Do you think they'll be so liberal in sending out replacements? I had one break on me and they (partly from a very helpful phone agent) sent me 6 out among other things.

Honestly, yes more members can't be great but surly the few people buying in now wouldn't exactly be filling the halls - might get a few people over the line but they're not going to be frequent flyers.

That might blur the line for ODU’s, as currently you need to have QP access to get them, and they’re a benefit, but day passes would mean anyone from Silver down to Bronze could also try for an upgrade in the lounge.

They won't be in the Qantas Club either. They'll be lined up in the non-priority queues waiting to check-in.

If Qantas really wants to do something memorable for it's 90th year, it should reward all its longtime "mums and dads" shareholders like myself who have held onto it's shares almost since issue, while returns have basically dwindled. Why not start with complementary entry to QC for the year? It might win back a few hearts and minds in this era of intense competition.

Wouldn’t that essentially turn the screws on profits, with all the free food and drink they’d be giving away? The lounge would probably fill in no time too, so they’d be screwing existing customers by not letting them in.

Winning back hearts and minds is good, but if you’re not profitable at the same time, there’s problems ;)

If there was a minimum of say, 10 years continuous ownership of securities in Qantas for qualification (and not include corporates), then I can't imagine that would cause any crisis to the balance sheet. It could be perhaps viewed as a sort of one-off marketing reinforcement that may even tempt some of us away from DJ and the likes for the sake of a bit of extra comfort in our latter years.

Anytime I can save $300 odd, not have to spend $,000's for SC's and still get Lounge access, I call it a win.

Thanks for making me aware, joined today.

Will see in about 2 weeks if I get *G on Aegean from a SYD-LHR run. For just over $2k I'll get lounge access with 2 Alliances ...not bad.

Cheering.

$430 is good enough for me.

Should get me into the Club in Bangkok - even when flying J* no?

Be careful as the Jetstar flight has to be Jetstar Australia (Pty Ltd??)- that is.. a flight number beginning with JQ.

And it'd have to be on a JQ flight leaving BKK, just in case you were travelling into BKK..

Funninly enough this promotion has done to me exactly what QF wants people to do - pay to join the QP.

In reality, the saving is pretty good, and at the $800 I wouldn't pay. There is absolutely no way I'll reach SG next year, seeing I only fly for lesiure, so I might as well.

I'll probably be making around 6-8 domestic and trans tasman flights between now and next September, so each entry is at around $25-35. Given the cost of one entry to DJ lounge, this is pretty reasonable, and I suppose will encourage me to hit the skies!

Looking at the benefits, and although priority domestic check in has been removed, there is still the NGCI beneifts, as well as priority international check-in.

I do have two main questions:
1) Seeing as though I travel only for leisure: what are the dress standards applicable? (i.e. what is the minimum dress standard? Smart casual? Jeans acceptable? --Please be assured I am not a bogan in board shorts and thongs!! :D, just wanting a rough idea of where the line in the sand is)
2) What type of alcoholic beverages are available?? Wide range of beers? Spirits? ;)
