JQ - My Positive Experience

T4 is designed to maximise revenue for the "concessions" by basically forcing PAX to wait for their flights amongst the centrally located retail outlets (goods/food/drink/etc.), rather than at the gate.

They do this by making the the gate area an uncomfortable place to wait. If you do go to the gate "early" you will find almost no seating other than the floor and there's not much of that either.

Anyone who's complained about having to take the duty free store snake route on international departures will understand the type of thinking and why there are gripes.

Clearly we come from different planets Hawkeye - I would much prefer to sit slurping on a pint of CD in the boozer rather than sitting at the gate knitting - but each to their own.

Interested in this bit CCP - exactly which aspects do you find so painful?

Whilst it's great excerise ( and helps getting those all important daily steps up) the actual walk to the JQ gates is quite an oversight, with quite a narrow corridor, lack lustre air conditioning in summer and of course the lack of available seating both at the gates and the food court makes the whole T4 experience somewhat underwhelming.
To be fair, the retail and food offering in T4 is quite good though, and JQ & TT are not to blame for the terminals shortfalls.

Small first world problems I guess. ;)

I fully understand why your gregarious personality would not find an issue with the set up. :D

Going back, the T1 'cattle pen' used by Jetstar (set up for dash8's & the like, not Airbii) was indeed another manifestation of hades. But at least it was in reach of the QP. :)

I flew DPS-DRW and BNE-NTL on Jetstar. The former flight I was on a SC run binge, I slept through the flight. The latter was short and sweet. Overall good experience recently, and in a weird way wished it was longer as given the context I wanted 1) sleep and 2) finish my movie

J? Or Y? :-).

I like the JQ *class experience for status runs. Otherwise I don't usually fly unless no other option is available

Ah huh - I knew it - again a display of the whole world needing to revolve around lounge access for the 'select few' - I represent the interests of the common man - the everyday Y pax who has to scrimp and save to even afford a Y tix on a LCC - a cold beer and cheeseburger is all I need - both readily available in T4.

You've made me guffaw my drink all over my neighbour when I read that!

Does Cruiserette know about this Damascene conversion?

If you paid, pre-selected and moved to inferior seats without justified reason I suggest you write them a feedback. At the very least you should get the money paid for your seats back.

Not necessarily - Jetstar flat out refused to refund my seat selection fee after moving me from row 10 to row 26.

Anyway, good to hear that you had a good experience with them, Cruiser Elite.

Hmmm ... I had a cold beer and a cheeseburger in the Cathay Pier lounge at HKG earlier this month.

They were good too.

There was a longer walk to the gate than the length of MEL terminal complex.

I am pleased you enjoyed your T4 experience. I hope to have a positive experince should I at some stage be unable to avoid the terminal ...

I don't think I actually stated I 'enjoyed' T4 - it's certainly more than tolerable. It is still a budget terminal serving pax booked on LCCs and clearly not to taste of most DYKWIA AFF members who think their throats have been cut if there is no lounge for them - I don't think it deserves the negativity it receives - and dare I say it - especially if the poster hasn't actually experienced it.

You did use the term 'excellent experience'; indeed I guess thats not necessarily the same as 'enjoyed'.

A Lounge used in the manner most suited to one can make travel nicer.

I am not sure I'm a DYKWIA and you did not describe me personally as one ... which is all fine.

I do have a lounge option at MEL before Jetstar flights. I just need to head out of there 15 minutes earlier and I get some nice exercise as a bonus. A bit like USA domestic travel really.

As for negativity, I described what I find gives me those vibes about the place and that's basically in relation to the deliberate design of it.

What do you mean by budget terminal? I've been to T4 many times and it looks fine. Nice shops, nice restaurants/bars, looks better than T3 IMO. Only negative thing I can think of is exactly because there is a lounge for JQ flyers but it's located quite far in T1.

I found JQ boarding exceptionally fast in Adelaide the other week. There just seemed to be less messing around. And because no one really wanted anything to eat or drink from the trolley then it was all out of the way very quickly. And there were fewer announcements so I could just bunker down and watch my iPad movie. For a short trip I enjoyed the minimum fuss.

I flew Jetstar from Gold Coast to Newcastle and back to Brisbane over the weekend, the flight down was 15 minutes late and the flight back was on time.

The 15 minute delay meant I was able to get some lunch before the flight.

I had row 4 on the way down and exit row back so I was happy for my weekend flights with Jetstar.

Have low expectations and you will be surprised.

I hope to have a positive experince should I at some stage be unable to avoid the terminal ...
I took this as meaning that you had not yet experienced the joy of T4 'Cyril Lover' - my apologies if I misread your post.
