Some people on Whirlpool had some luck, thanks to the major changes to the Jetstar booking systems...

That link is to a private forum (no public access)

Here is a post from there that sums it up nicely.

Cheapest fares since the launch - grabbed 2 tkts to HNL for $600 all in.

The system is working well at the moment because they haven't emailed the database yet. So get in now - or sit clicking 1000 times tonight

IMPORTANT UPDATE!! ESPECIALLY FOR THOSE THAT HAVE ALREADY BOOKED!

Jetstar system has stuffed up the pricing for the early bookers meaning that the flights were $500 (or $250 per person) cheaper than they should have been. The special which I booked for $600 is now just over a $1000 in total - which is advertised as the $4 friend special.

I have a funny feeling I'm going to be getting a phonecall from Jetstar asking me for more money!!

Legally (I presume) my answer will be no. They can't ask for more money?

I checked the prices for my SYD-HNL 25NOV08 and HNL-SYD 02DEC08 flights which are now $430+ more than what I booked it ($595) for.

Regardless, the website says $281.50 SYD-HNL for 1 person PLUS $4.00 for the 2nd person, so a return trip is $571.00 plus CC charges - which is the figure I have booked.

Now I need to book a hotel :(

"The fares shown below are the price per passenger. These fares will be booked as 2 equal fares, and must be booked in pairs. When you search, sale fares will be identified by our special birthday sale fare banner!"

So what Jetstar are trying to say is that the $281 airfare is the normal airfare (say $550) + $4 divided by two. So in reality 2 people to HNL on the special flying return should be $281 x 2 x 2.

Their systems are bad enough without confusing the punter even further! :-)

""On flights to Japan and Honolulu, the total price for 2 is just one JetSaver fare, which includes checked baggage, plus just $4.""

The above comment is from the sale (on 2nd line of promo site). So $281 is for 2 people each way plus just $4.00

Was going through my diary from last year and the Jetstar 4th Birthday sale caught my eye. (namely coz I grabbed a few $4 seats)

So mark in your diary for 2009, around the 24th - 30th of April is when ol JQ seems to have their big sale of the year.

Last year it was $4 fares for their 4th, so I'm presuming $5 fares for their 5th !

Plus last year the sale was followed a day later by the companion for $4 offer (international and domestic) - so a heads up on that one too.

Have a great Easter

Lets hope they are not still in business in 195 years time as a $200 fare OOL-SYD may not be all that big a draw card for a sale promotion :p

In 195 years time, it might be a fantastic deal

I know they were born on a very experienced mother who gifted her sibling with every possible toy... like aircraft... but really hard to believe its only been 5 years they have been around, seems longer.
