Jump queue at X-ray? [others not ready, you are]

It has been implied many times in the past few posts. See a free spot then move up and dump your stuff there assuming you know exactly what each person in front of you is thinking.

Bollocks. No one at any time explicitly or implicitly said anything about a line up of 20-30 people was acceptable to queue jump.

I’ve had too many sparkling and pain killers (as a result of tooth extraction yesterday) to notice. I shall dread looking at the posts I’ve made tonight later. Ha. Such is life.

New one at SGN last week. The opposite happened, someone not ready queue jumped people who were. The area for the tray loading is very short, about the length of a standard desk. 2-3 people max at one time. I patiently waited for space to load the tray (everything in my hand ready to, go except my shoes, which have to be removed ), and old mate (European I think, heard him talking to someone after security, I won't point out the nationality) walks straight up the to x ray machine and plonks an empty tray on the rollers and proceeds to unpack his laptop, belt, wallet, watch etc. Blocking the rest of us who had been waiting patiently and were ready to go. Been travelling long enough to not let it worry me, but can always pick a w#@$ker when I see one.

Been following the thread with interest. Recent discussion might be better informed by knowing how many is lot of. That could easily include 20 or 30.

Just did this at SYD priority line. Lots of stupid people ahead of me wondering what to do. I just walked ahead, put my backpack down and walked through to looks of disgust.

I don't care, I don't beep and the security guard appreciated a quick clearance.

And you knew that some of those lots of stupid people were not also ready to dump their bag and walk because...?

Footage of staff stealing money at the xray machine.

About 45secs you see her delaying pax bags going though the xray and then she blocks her hands with another bag to take $, meanwhile the pax are on the other side, wondering where are their bags.

They stood there looking in wonderment at the shiny lights and clearly had no idea what they were expected to do. I led by example.

I hope none of them were sitting in an exit row because we'd all die.

They didn't dump their bags and walk.

Thankfully most queues I encounter are civilised.

Perhaps they were being polite and civilised and waiting for the people in front, but could have just walked through with no delay?

And "lots" = ????

then for me it is unreasonable to skip lots of people. I'd agree that it is rude and does lead to a decline in standards in society.

Didn't the decline start when they failed to prepare to go through the screening. I walk up to the screening area ready to walk straight through. Why don't others?

Do you wait for someone to sit at a green arrow in front of you just because they're not ready? Or do you give a quick tap of the horn?

ADL can be a real pain - last time there were 2 out of 4 lanes open, with the line snaking all the way down to the far end of the check-in terminal. I was walking back from dumping my trolley and observed a 12m gap in the middle of the queue.

Quick mental check - were those at the back just crowding about waiting for others or in the actual queue? Well, I decided to join the end of the first queue and we'd wandered about 10m forward when I heard a woman starting to b**ch about a guy ahead of me who had joined his colleagues from a school group.

Seems she "regularly travels through ADL" and some people were "totally out of line" - seems we should have all waited behind her and her friend as they held up the line sorting out how to carry their copious amount of hand luggage. By the time it took to get to the actual security check (20 minutes), I'd unloaded everything into my laptop bag and removed the laptop. I had a quick look behind me and saw said "well-travelled" woman and her friend rummaging through their bags attempting to get ready, holding up everyone behind them.

A couple of businessmen dodged around both women and that actually set off a surge of others doing the same - more whinging followed at this "pushing in", but seriously, you had 20 plus minutes to get ready!! What did you expect from those of us actually do travel every day/week - our time is precious (yup the lounge was calling) and we had prepared ourselves to keep things flowing well - you snooze, you lose and in this particular case, you get left in our dust.:p

Surely the "green arrow" comparison is a bit dubious. In that instance, there is one person/vehicle holding up progress because they are happily day dreaming. Gentle prompting (note the gentle!) is quite appropriate.
A more valid comparison would be the person who drives up the emergency lane to bypass twenty vehicles who are politely allowing a pedestrian to cross the road. I'm with Vic on this. The definition of "lots" is very relevant.

IIRC, I even once received a dirty look from a security guy.

If security man give me a dirty look I will DEMAND to speak to SUPERVISOR and get him in TROUBLE. Just because someone has big muscle and offical uniform it does not mean they can be RUDE to valuable airline customer.

Just now Adelaide airport. A couple with a child escorted down the straight part of the snake while we all had to snake. They reached the front of the line then started to put on the belt for screen. I’d already put bag on belt behind them. Wife not too bad. Gold bangle? Ok. Jacket in hand? Ok. Oh - we need to take out our phones? Right. Oh. I need to take out the wallet from my pocket? Oh. What are they - oh yes, car keys. They come out too? Coins? Ok. Sigh. They were not born here so have travelled on a plane before.
