Jump queue at X-ray? [others not ready, you are]

Just did this at SYD priority line. Lots of stupid people ahead of me wondering what to do. I just walked ahead, put my backpack down and walked through to looks of disgust.

I don't care, I don't beep and the security guard appreciated a quick clearance.
You should care. You have no right to go past so many people who have been patiently waiting in the queue. Wait your turn

I think you missed the point of this thread. It’s about filling in gaps when you are ready to be scanned while others are still rifling through their gear. The security people in Adelaide actively tell the appropriate people to move into those gaps.

I had an interesting experience in LHR. Plenty of security staff telling everyone to remove jackets and coats, get their lap tops out etc. As they made it to the front of the line, if they weren’t ready for screening, they were sent to the back of the queue. Instant karma, it didn’t take long for the rest of the clueless to work it out

You reminded me of another reason why we dont like LHR.We were flying out on an F award.Told to wait whilst a fellow, his 3 wives and 7 children all of whom had numerous bags and not ready went through.I guess because we looked displeased all our bags were then gone through by hand.No reason given.

Wasn't Barnaby Joyce escaping with his illegitimate family?

So I should just stand and wait while people who have no idea what they're doing or probably even why they're in the queue work out what to do?

I'd probably still be waiting! Simply put people shouldn't enter these queues until they're ready to proceed. I walk up, put down my bag(s) and am ready to walk through.

They weren't waiting patiently, they were dumbstruck, maybe about being in a queue? I don't know. I was patient for tolerating their stupidity and not saying anything.

Just like the person behind me in BNE last week who decided they were going to take the only 2 trays on the belt as I had one eye on my daughter and one eye on taking my laptop out. Then the person behind him took the next 2 trays so I had to wait for trays to come out.

FFS I am taking things out of my bag. I'm not disorganised. You need to patiently wait until I've used as many trays as I need before you can do anything. It is not a difficult concept.

Lucky my daughter was there otherwise good chance that we may not get through security once I start verbal spray.

People need to have some manners and respect for those around them.

Sorry. I don’t agree with you. Are they patiently waiting, or just being obtuse and holding everybody up? If sheeple aren’t going to move efficiently through the security lines, the more intelligent and aware should step in.

Honestly when I see the way some people dither around, I’m surprised they can find the airport!

So you suggest that people who don’t need to take anything out of their bag should wait for you to take out laptop, phone, keys, empty your pockets etc when there is a lot of space ahead of you on the belt? And I’m not talking of people way back on the queue but those who are about to enter the belt area.

Agree people shouldn’t pinch the trays you might need but that’s a different issue entirely and I rarely use one and most people with a clear bag don’t use one so sorry JohnK I will not be waiting for you, not a matter of being patient but keeping the security line moving and which is what I know Adelaide security want me to do.

Sorry but I haven't missed the point of the thread.

If I'm not ready I move out of the way and sort my things into trays. The next person is free to move past me.

If if I am holding the trays waiting to put them on the belt I don't need some smart cough from 7-8 back in the queue to push their way through into what they think is a vacant spot on the belt because they are ready and those in front don't appear ready. I'm quite capable of doing that myself.

Similarly if the queue is snaking around and around and you have nothing do you just walk past 20-30 people? Or if you just have keys is it still ok to push past 20-30 people because you are ready and only need to put keys in a tray?

Where do you draw the line? We queue for a reason. In the beginning of this thread we said it was ok to move past people in front of you who are not ready. Now we are saying that it's a free for all as long as you see a free spot on the belt? Sorry don't agree. Use common sense and don't make assumptions.

Ah no one said it was ok to do anything like that.

It has been implied many times in the past few posts. See a free spot then move up and dump your stuff there assuming you know exactly what each person in front of you is thinking.

You see now you are the one making assumptions and extrapolating from them.

I think most of us on this forum get the balance between manners and getting to the lounge as quickly as possible. But there was an amusing episode a few months back at Canberra Airport, where are only two machines for screening. One morning a Mum with a very young baby was trying to get her bags through while balancing baby on her hip, and had to get 'items out of her bag for inspection. I was about to step up from the opposite queue but the bloke behind her offered to help her, and she responded with a thank you and handed him the baby to hold while she got things out the bag and tray organised. By the look on his face I don't think he had held a baby before and I'm glad they both cleared the security in one piece, and the baby.

Great story.

In BNE they work with tubs. You can't grab one and place it on the belt. You wait for tubs to come around and you put your things in there. Everything including your bag.

So I am first to get to the belt and put my bag up to start taking laptop out and turned around to see what daughter was doing. The guy behind me thought he'd just put his things in the tubs in front of me because he was in a hurry to get to lounge.

He was extremely rude.

This thread is not about 'tubs' and etiquette thereof, it is about this:

Well played.

Suggestion: Keep daughter, and kids in general, in front of you, in fact in sight at all times. Not only will it keep them safer, it will lessen the chance of them going somewhere /doing something they shouldn't around security, where the officials tend to be less patient than the travellers.

Who said anything about pushing ahead of 20 - 30 people. WTF?
