I think most of us on this forum get the balance between manners and getting to the lounge as quickly as possible. But there was an amusing episode a few months back at Canberra Airport, where are only two machines for screening. One morning a Mum with a very young baby was trying to get her bags through while balancing baby on her hip, and had to get 'items out of her bag for inspection. I was about to step up from the opposite queue but the bloke behind her offered to help her, and she responded with a thank you and handed him the baby to hold while she got things out the bag and tray organised. By the look on his face I don't think he had held a baby before and I'm glad they both cleared the security in one piece, and the baby.
