Someone posted along the following lines a while back (can't find the original post, but it pretty much said this):

Do a multicity J booking (with 2 legs):

-BNE-MEL, and
-MELxSYDxNAN (ie, MEL-NAN, routing via SYD)

and then the reverse for the return.

If you book the NAN-SYD-MEL-BNE flights via the Qantas Fiji site, you'll save $$$.

How do you get the QF website to do a multi-city ex-Fiji? When I change the site to Fiji I lose the option to multi-city.

If you do a OW not multicity ex NAN on the QF Fiji site it more often than not will show the lone way home, getting rid of the need to do multi-city.

Hmmm. It only routes me NAN-MELor NAN-xSYD-MEL, nothing with BNE, but I can get the NAN-xSYD-xMEL-NAN on Expedia so that's fine.

What is the fare bucket for these el-cheapo business seats on FJ?

The QF numbers book in D class which is linked to FJ C class in the background

I have not been able to do one way NAN to BNE via QF Fiji site, as above (ie NAN-SYD-MEL-BNE). Instead, the options are direct flight NAN-BNE or via SYD, NAN-SYD-BNE, (no xMEL). Could someone please clarify the steps how to include MEL? Many thanks.

It can't be done on Qantas.com anymore, however I've booked the same thing on ifly.com.au and it priced the same.

You need to enter it as NAN-MEL and MEL-BNE (i think that was it) and it will still price up at the correct fare.

Had no issues using it at all. Booked online very easily and the e-tickets were emailed to me the next day.

Thanks, danielribo, for your reply. I went to ifly.com.au, but it was a flying website and not a flight booking website. I could not see where flight booking could be done.

Maybe they think with your strange routing you want to be a pilot ;). Actually believe its https://ifly.sabreexplore.com.au/searchAir.do which is the multicity version of ifly.net.au

Hi guys,

I just got back last night from a Fiji status run. My flights were:

PER-BNE-MEL-SYD-NAN-SYD-MEL-BNE-PER

This was my second status run to Fiji.

Some observations:

  • I earned 460 SC for my outlay of $2200 (and 40K points) equating to 4.8$/SC, which isn't too bad.
  • Air Pacific service was great, but a shame the aircraft were old (747-300s I think). Food was good too (not Qantas quality, but certainly the curries were tasty!)
  • After eight flights in 48 hours
  • I was repeatedly queried about why I was staying/stayed in Nadi only one night, by immigration and customs in Fiji. I had to produce my hotel bookings (internet print out), and then my Frequent Flyer card when I said it was a Frequent Flyer status Run.

Regards,

DB. :)

Each to their own.... but who could be bothered wasting $2200 flying to Fiji for nothing? Why not make a holiday of it and stay for a few days??

Clearly I am not understanding how desperate people are to have airline status. Id have thought if you flew enough to get X status, that was a bonus, to to actively go out and spend money and waste a long weekend flying for nothing, just to maintain X status is IMO, very odd behaviour. No wonder Customs and Immigration looked at you funny!

And FJ havent flown 747-300's in a while. Id have thought an airline "geek" would know these sorts of "minor" details.....

People are entitled to spend their money the way they choose, and some people may find "geek" an offensive term!

In which case, I take it back. And they most certainly are welcome to spend their money as they see fit. I just find it strange that people are effectively buying status, which was never intended to be a commodity. But as you so rightly point out, to each their own.

For some, the Journey itself is the reward.

I've done the Fiji Status run, although I stayed for a few nights at Denarau and enjoyed the trip. However, I wouldn't be critical of anyone who does these trips with an immediate turn around. Part of the the point of this forum is to share information and to provide tips to others.

Im not being critical, i just don't understand it. But then again.... I dont have to.

for mine, if you don't fly enough to reach WP (in the normal sort of way, where you fly because you actually need to be somewhere), then im not sure why you need the benefits of WP for the few flights you actually take. There is a reason why Qantas let you buy QP but not FF status, which is what is effectively being done. But whatever floats ya boat....

if you want to abuse the system, don't complain when they "enhance" SC runs away, as those responsible will only have themselves to blame!

Why would it concern anyone how contributors to this forum choose to maintain status? Members post to share and assist and I have gained plenty from this.

Some people will get close (eg. 1100SCs vs 1200 required to re-qualify) and decide the "investment" in terms of time and dollars is worth it for the benefits they gain from being Plat vs Gold (eg. J lounge access, F lounge access, higher priority for upgrades etc) - they're still flying a lot in that case - especially if the majority of the original 1100 is earnt flying discount Y for instance.

It's also not abuse, it's within the rules, and it's a bum on a seat for the airline, with net revenue. They account for the SCs rewarded in the airfare they charge. And yes, if they withdraw the earn, then people wont fly it as a "status run".
