Just returned from Fiji Status Run

Some people will get close (eg. 1100SCs vs 1200 required to re-qualify) and decide the "investment" in terms of time and dollars is worth it for the benefits they gain from being Plat vs Gold (eg. J lounge access, F lounge access, higher priority for upgrades etc) - they're still flying a lot in that case - especially if the majority of the original 1100 is earnt flying discount Y for instance.

It's also not abuse, it's within the rules, and it's a bum on a seat for the airline, with net revenue. They account for the SCs rewarded in the airfare they charge. And yes, if they withdraw the earn, then people wont fly it as a "status run".

Vaild points. I just hope QF see it that way. All it takes is for some bright spark to work out how many people are doing this and diluting the benefits of the "true" WP's before they implement some mechanism by which they control your SC earn. Just saying.......

It won't take a bright spark very long to realise only a very minute % of QF FF take these NAN runs and I am guessing less than 100 out of the 7.5 million members out there. But then again, those bright sparks at QF thought the removal of ATA was an enhancement.

Dont kid yourself.... if AJ cant work out a way to get you 100 out of the F lounges, and save a few bob in the process, dont think he wont.

There are plenty of ways to get cheap SCs and they have been there for a very long time, I dont think QF really care how many WPs they have given the recent focus on improving all the other level benefits.

I spent $1200 or so on some AY flights back in 2006 and three days commuting to either HKG or SIN ex BKK to keep my status, it came in handy the following year when I was comp'd, you can also get back that money in the extra points you earn as a WP with the 100% bonus over the longer trips!

WP status costs QF to provide and i've always thought it strange that all you have to do, is fly 4 sectors with them and accumulate the remainder on other airlines. Thats effectively 40SC's for WP status!! I wouldn't be surprised if they "enhance" this in the future.

The four sectors is only a recent change, within the last couple of years. they can't enhance it out as it is part of One World.. the reverse also happens too - e.g. fly QF and credit AA.

Nope, WPs generate revenue, not costs, and accumulation on other airlines is pure profit for QFs most profitable arm, their FF program! WPs only cost QF when we do a F lounge run "waiter - more verve please, I need to recover the cost of my $35 airfare".

How could you drink the verve???? Tattinger please! :p

I clearly need to do more F lounge runs so I can appreciate the difference, thank goodness Tiger are back with their $49 specials!

I think we definately need another run then! i am happy to have a tasting session!!

I got to sample 'Tattinger' recently (from A380 F Class). Do people really pay that amount for that product? Way, Way, way overpriced (if you haven't tried it, don't worry, it's rubbish).

Actually, the four segment rule has been enforced in recent years as distinct from being a recent change to the T&C's.

The rule was was always¹ there. I personally believe they decided to enforce it, not due to activity in Oz, but more to do with USA denizens who could put a YUP to QF and earn lounge access thereof the SC earn.

¹ At least since 1994

is it getting enforced within other OW airlines FFP's too?
I know BA have enforced their four segment rule for some time; AA to date have not.

AirNZ have a rule that for Gold Elite Qualification, 900 of the 1500 necessary Status Points for Qualification need to be earned on NZ flight numbers on NZ aircraft. (For re-qualification, it is 810/1350)

I might beat you to it- I'll be doing JQ35 on 27th August on the way back from AKL-SYD on LAN - took your suggestion and had the flights ticketed together through our corporate TA.

I happen to be going to Rotorua for a conference that week, so the LAN deal was just perfect- it's very inexpensive at the moment!

Thanks to Tiger I have to drink/eat $53 worth, and I like the absence of a CC surcharge on the pricebeat!
So you don't have to pay the cc fees on the J* price match? Good to know....
