Just when you thought you had seen it all in the Qantas lounge...

The problem is where the line is drawn
The basic line is drawn by the owner or manager of the space you are in. The final line is drawn by your sense of propriety, respect and common sense.
Cutting toe nails in the lounge, now is that bad, or is that BAD?
Meh - as someone said here:

I would say, it takes all sorts to make the world go round, or to make "understanding" of what it takes to be able to get entry to the QFd lounge, anything is acceptable, so long as its not topless or nude.

Legally you may be right, but my thinking is that a lounge is a waiting room for public transport and if someone is able to pay for a publicly offered service without causing undue discomfort to anyone or any threat to public safety, then there is no reasonable ground to refuse service based on the owner's whim.

So, would this be acceptable in the lounge?

On a serious note, I'm sure there is something in the conditions to decline any and everybody if so desired by the relevant person.

I always think it is helpful to define the problem that requires solving before looking at potential solutions. Is anyone able to articulate the problem that the QF Lounge dress code is solving?

Yes I think so. Tattoos were once a sign of rebellion and noncomformance, an expression of individuality. In some age groups it seems now more a sign of conformance.
Yeh, Gen Z men have intellectualised beer, emasculated facial hair and have made tattoos ironic.

The problem at the moment is that society's standards are in freefall - and unfortunately the bottom isn't in sight!

I an pretty sure I heard similar comments in the 00s. And the 90s. And the 80s. And I bet similar comments were made in the 70s and 60s with those disgraceful hippies. And the 50s with the advent of rock n’ roll. And in the 1920s with the jazz era … shocking.

Society changes. All the time.

My granny used to complain about society’s failing standards right through the 1980s. I expect she is having a cup of tea with Cardinal Pell right now chatting about it - using her special telephone voice, of course.

Checking into a hotel in Manchester UK recently and there was a couple of girls checking in and they had their hair in rollers

Curious...where in Europe? Smoking is really not part of the course in most countries with in door smoking banned and upheld with riquor in most. Outside cafe smoking areas do exist...as they do in Australia and if they are puffing away "en masse" then I can only assume it's outside? I recall many a day in the Munich beer halls and beer festival when you can hardly see in front of you due to the smoke. Now, ofcourse it's banned!
Really. I just spent a few weeks in Europe and even in Switzerland you could smoke on train platforms. France Italy and Switzerland lots of smokers

Going back to my one reply, coming to think about it, its only in the US where you can bring toenail cutters past airport security eh?
Or it a banned item over there too.
Here I am sure you can't bring scissors or nail cutter or nail files through dom airport security screening anymore.
