OT - Kogan Mobile - Game Changer?

OK guys Kogan testing completed - 100% satisfaction for the purpose we require it.

I was in China for a week and my guys in the workshop exhausted the complimentary 100mins call on the $4.99 starter pack whilst I was away. This was just a test to see that we could reach customers Australia wide - network 100% effective not a hiccup.

For $300 unlimited calling pa our tech guys will be using this Kogan SIM card to call our customers with problems Australia wide - they can call and talk to their little hearts content. This SIM will pay for itself in 3mths for that purpose only - I may even be able to drop one incoming line (rental $39/mth I think) further enhancing the value.

Thanks to all the guys who contributed to the thread - I had never intended to use this as my primary mobile SIM - but as thread title indicates it has changed our game in-house here.

Just don't go over 6 hours a day...

Seems from the FB page that people are upset about the data... and Kogan have already disconnected people for breaching 800MB a day.

You would be hard pressed to breach the SMS/MMS/calls without doing commercial things.

But I suspect some people are using this as a cheapish 25+ GB / month tethered computer access

The youth market would have no problem smashing out 400 texts and 800mb with a few You tube videos.

The 6 hours of calls I would use somedays due to teleconferences and some times I have 2 or 3 in at least 1 hour each in duration plus just your daily ph calls.

Do they only disconnect you for the day or is it a cancelled account ph and lost mobile number.

Apparently they disconnect you permanently.

Guys my favourite Chinese saying of ALL time is: 'Believe not what the ear hears - believe only what the eye sees'.

I will upgrade to the 12mth contract today and repoprt back in a month or so.

400mb per day limit now, still a 6gb per month total. Goalposts are changing regularly.

Kogan Mobile Dumping High-Usage Customers | Lifehacker Australia
That will be due to this story:

Customer booted from Kogan Mobile service for using his phone too much | News.com.au

news.com.au said:
ONLINE retailer and telco reseller Kogan Mobile has been accused of kicking a customer with high internet usage off its mobile phone plan.

Kogan Mobile offers unlimited calls and texts and 6GB of data for $29 on its prepaid mobile plan which launched in December.

So we have been using Kogan Unlimited for over 3 months now - it works PERFECTLY. We are not ultra-high usage - our techos use it for solving customers probs over the phone - no concern at all if they are on Kogan number to a customer for up to an hour or 2 - costs next to nothing - and doesn't tie up other lines. YES I know this is specific usage - but it has been a game changer in-house for our company.

What do you think of the price increase by almost 50% in some cases that was announced Sunday, introduced today?? Game changer?

Indeed, pretty rough to give you 4 days of a 50% hike in plans!
Well markis8 - I did see the email but have not really read it - or acted on it - are you sure the 365 day plan has increased 50%? Wasn't it $299 last year / $328 this year?

Maybe not a game changer - small shift of goalposts at worst - still saving bucket load annually - well jam tin full anyway.

markis10 now known as markis8 - your sarcastic posting has lost you a coupla pts in my estimation :)

I've bailed. I was using KM for 3G on my IPad Mini, which has gone from $10/month to $15. For that price I can pick up a Telstra $30 starter kit (these are regularly on sale for $10-$15) and get 3GB of data at 4G speeds.

I did say some plans, needless to say the bottom ones are the worst:

The price of Kogan's $9.99 Data 30-plan increased by 50 per cent to $14.99, its $29 Access 30-plan increased by 34 per cent to $39, its $79 Access 90-plan increased by 25 per cent to $99 and its $299 Access 365-plan increased by 10 per cent to $329.

Sorry I lost points, as someone who has worked for a long time with telco providers I tend to be sceptical, especially with the bait and switch thats often used where the carrot does not stick around for long, even more so with "retail" providers who dont have control over their product.

Oh sorry - I thought with your twisted warped persona you must have been a doctor!

My handwriting resembles a doctors but sadly I work in IT/Telco land, and have been doing so for too long seeing far too many cowboys.

I thought you were Brisbane ATC, didn't know you were one of us in "IT" :)
