Alby, I posted that because I figured the WL policy may have changed since you last booked.

Hi guys, I am thinking to book a business class on saver to Beijing from Melbourne as well. However, the leg from Singapore to Beijing is always on wait list. What will happen if there is no business class tickets left at all? Would they cancel the tickets for the whole trip or would they just downgrade part of the trip to economy class. I have about 20,000 points expiry by April, I really want to use all my points in Krisflyer, but I don't have enough points to book the normal business class rewards.
Please help.

This seems a little weird - I regularly use Saver Awards MEL-PEK - usually only peak period - ie lead up to XMAS and Jan to mid Feb that Saver Awards are not available.

No doubt you are aware Saver Awards not available on 380 or 777.

Which dates in particular my friend?

UPDATE

Mate I just checked availability MEL-PEK on Mar 24 - Saver Award available - again I ask which dates are you trying?

My understanding from discussions with SIA is that once the waitlist expires so does your ticket. An alternative is to purchase your economy tickets and use your points to upgrade to business if available.

Thank you for your reply. I wish to book a ticket around mid-late Sep, and return around early mid Oct. Are you talking about business class saver award? There is none available during that period. The plane Singapore Airline using on Singapore- Beijing route is 777-200.
So what happen after I book the wait list ticket?

nathan, once you make the booking you will have around 10 weeks to pay for it. During this time the ticket remains Waitlisted unless a WL seat becomes available in which case SIA will notify you. If a WL seat does not become available, once the deadline to pay for ticket arrives then you no longer have a booking.

Thank you.

Can I just clarify, I actually thought when I make the booking I will make the payment. It appears Singapore airline will not charge the tax until the ticket is available, am I right?
What is the chance that WL seat will actually become available?

Nathan I feel your pain brother - I feel your pain.

Firstly - as of Apr 1 it appears there will be a plane change out of Melb - the 777-EWR will disappear and 777-300 will be used on this route.

If you check say Sep 15 - SQ228 and SQ218 both show 777-300 metal and both show J Saver availability.

I do not normally book that far out - but as I said above I feel your pain. As you have points expiring in April you want certainty right - fully understandable.

Now if I were you - I would just keep looking each day for a month or so - I believe you have plenty time up your sleeve - or keep calling KF and keep trying to get them to confirm a date for you - I have done this before and it CAN work.

You might also like to try MEL-SIN-SZX (Shenzhen) or MEL-SIN-CAN (Guangzhou) - you will then need to take domestic flight to Beijing but these J Saver redemptions are 37,000pts compared to PEK or PVG which are 53,000pts.

Hope that helps mate - good luck.

So currently 777-200 serves IST, ATH, COP, FCO and AMS am I right?

Which of these planes has the new regional J seating please guys?
