KrisFlyer Spontaneous Escapes

EDIT: The ph now reads as an int call. Any luck with you changes?
After discussing it with hubby, he decided that he would keep his Y award flights with SQ in May - because if he cancelled it then he would still have to find alternative ways of getting from SIN to SYD return then (he has connecting flights with BA from SIN to LHR in J).
Since we are not active with SQ (mainly oneworld) and do not have readily available miles to redeem, we would have to transfer from credit card and hotel points. Last time we did this SQ took over 2 weeks to credit the points, while other airlines took 3 days!
For hubby's trip in March (next month) he decided to pay revenue Y fares from LHR (via SIN) to SYD return with red roo - but change planes in SIN so he can have a few hours at the lounge in SIN to freshen up after / before the 15 hours flights.
Thanks for your help and suggestion - a great pity that we could not make use of SQ promo.

For some reason I can't get my head around this promo. The tickets have to be Ex SIN so on top of the award booking I will have to make my way to SIN on a separate booking. Is that correct? Or can I use the SIN-MEL promo in reverse insead? ie. MEL-SIN-MEL

I'm not quite sure where you're reading that (Ex SIN) - it is definitely possible to book MEL-SIN-MEL for 56k in J (insanely good!!!).
There are some cities in the promotion that are only ex Sin (Mumbai and New Delhi for example) and some that are only inbound to Sin (Barcelona in J and Paris in Y only): you just need to look carefully at the flights that are eligible on the promo page.

As others have stated, be aware that the correct, discounted price does not show up until you have chosen flights - it then shows in the summary box.

Certainly good value for those that can get away in March . How often do they have special promotions like these ?

Most of the time, promo run during low season. Dont expect during school holiday / mid/high season.

This is the best ever discount I've seen, don't expect it to be 50% next time. It's been 30% a few times. Also the routes are quite plentiful too, has often been only a couple of AU cities included.

I only just got an email about this last night. Good thing I read forums like this so I stand a chance of getting the discounted redemption!

SQ runs the KrisFlyer Spontaneous Escapes promo in the second half of every month, for travel in the following month. However, the included routes and % discount on offer do vary from month to month.

To be fair though, SQ did indicate there will be more and better promos as part of the recent devaluation so not sure past performance can be relied on here.

They said in January that it was formally being added as a feature of the program. This is the launch month of it is a permanent feature. They said they would launch with a bang.

I expect it will go back to normal next month.

so just confirming, so we should expect to see april dates for spontaneous be released shortly being the start of hte second month?

I just did a test booking, mel to SIN march 26-30 return, the ad says
  • Business: 28,000
  • Eligible flights (Melbourne to Singapore): SQ218, SQ228

but when I click on these dates its coming up with 124k points with $155 taxes

what am I doing wrong?

You have to go all the way to the checkout page to see the actual price in points to pay.

It could be the waitlist yeah. I haven't personally redeemed any escapes yet but I've done several dummy bookings a few weeks back (while daydreaming) and have had 56k J returns to SIN come up for me as advertised.

no probs, all good,
seems a pain the discounted fairs dont show up until the end, or if at all

edit: so can anyone confirm how to tell if you have a spontaneous flight discount possible?

does it show up only at the end so you dont know until the very end?
or does waitlisting not work ?

very confused

Gday

I was able to bring up the discount as soon as i clicked on the flight using the app a few weeks ago.

By the way im pretty sure there isnt an unlimited number of tickets at the discount rate. Once they send the email out you need to jump on it otherwise the reduced points tickets will be gone. That is probably why you cant see the discount tickets- they are sold out.

And with regards to waitlisting- if the flight is waitlisted then there are no normal priced tickets available let alone the discount ones. It goes against the logic of the promotion.

Pele.

I'm sure this is what you mean too. The "limit" to the discount is the time. You must book by the date. But if the Saver awards run out before that date, you just see the flight as closed for saver.

Anyway, I'm wondering if anyone's see next month's promo yet?
