My mother is flying from MEL to KUL and I need to find a connecting flight to get her to HKG and back to KUL. I've checked air asia and it comes to about MYR600 + food + baggage, so not really worth it.

I've tried CX and they can do MYR704 which I think is quite good. Anyone else have any ideas as to cheap airlines.

My mother arrives Sat 8th May in KUL 0700, and leaves KUL Fri 14 May 2010, 1340 hrs (so would probably want to get there the night before to avoid really early flight etc).

I assume with CX that you can get QFF miles (oneworld?).

Under A$250 for a 3+ hour flight each way ... sounds like a bargain to me.

That's what I thought ;) But the student in me thought, there must be cheaper as I only took 5 mins to find this fare!

From a cursory glance at the CX website, these appear to be Q class fares, which do not earn Asia Miles or QFF points.

I would imagine if Air Asia is similarly priced once you add on the essentials, you'd be struggling to find a better deal - AUD 230 odd return is pretty damn good, pretty much the same as a SYD-MEL return fare on sale. And I would imagine the CX service would be much better than Air Asia. :)

Yeh I think ill just book the cx fares. I got cheap qantas from melb to sydney for $79. Air asia service was quite good actually, just that you had to pay for it :)

CX use their regional planes KUL-HKG vv.

For a flight that is similar to that of PER-MEL, it really isn't that much of a problem.

QFF points, the CX website is quite transparent in what class you are booking into

Note that a couple of the flights HKG-KUL and vv are a CX codeshare, operated by Malaysian Airlines if that makes any difference to you.

They definitely do not earn QFF points and SC's (They are the flights no. CX1xx_)
