You lot are doing my head in. Could double as a man bag actually.
Never. Isn't that one of the reasons women carry large bags to carry man-stuff?

or do you mean a bag in which to fit a man?

Now there's a thought. That would come in handy.

Yes, one of the reasons I purchased same bag (mine not due to arrive until next week :( ) I seem to always get handed the wallet, phone, car keys if I have a hand bag.
Hoping this one is not too " female" so he can carry it some times.

This thread is right up my alley. I have an obsession with finding the perfect travel/carryon/work bag/handbag for travelling. I cant say I've found the perfect bag yet at the perfect price but my current faves are:

Knomo - I have several of their bags but my current fave is this
one - Curzon Tote in navy from KNOMO: Official Store | Women's 15" Laptop Bag | Blue Shoulder Bag | Ladies Bags | Handbags | Tote | Designed by KNOMO London
This one is also similar but looks like it has the sleeve that can slip over your rollie bag which mine doesn't have.
Grosvenor Square Slim Tote from KNOMO: Official Store | Women's 15" Laptop Bag in Chestnut | Black Shoulder Bag | Ladies Bags | Handbags | Tote | Designed by KNOMO London

Timbuk2 - I dont have this bag but have been looking at it-
Versatile Monterey Messenger Bag or Tote Bag | Timbuk2 Bags

I also have a cross body Tumi that I love. Its not a huge bag but it has heaps of pockets and is a great travel bag -

The bag.
Quite a dark grey. But bright inside.

I wish it was this bright

But its more like this

With all the card slots the clear intention is to use it as a handbag.
This zipper is behind the card slots. Large and would hold large papers.

There is a lot of room here. 2 bottles and the old original ipad in the pocket area. A large laptop wouldn't fit in this pocket but fits easily in the main area. Plenty of room for panasonic camera, wallet, pj's :p, jacket, phone etc.
The separate attached purse

Larger strap - very robust.

Sitting on the handle

Or an extra external pocket secured with a stud.

Do the water bottles also fit within the 2 outside zips?

Wonderful. I prefer to have the bottles outside, so I don't have to open my bag just to get a swig of water. (hubby just as likely to leave bag wide open anyway.)

I really want a water bottle holder thingy on the outside - not too much to ask for, is it? But hard to find in a nice bag.

Definitely have a look at some premium nappy/diaper bags. Many of these have pockets galore with [water] bottle holders and all sorts of stuff. They also have good space and such.

Yes, Ive tried a couple on the higher end, one I really liked but I wished the handles were longer and another seemed to weigh a lot even when empty.

We need a build your own bag site that doesn't mean we have to mortgage the house to get it.

Our normal carry-on - Skedaddle | BlackWolf has those hidden away backpack straps. Very handy.
(but no water bottle holders - sorry I digress from topic)

My daughter has a part-time job in a baby shop. She agrees that nappy bags are capacious with multiple pockets which fit drink bottles etc. I prefer a bag which has straps which allow you to carry the bag under your arm, not just in your hand. See below for example. I don't like a long cross body strap.

I now also fancy the Pacsafe range as I was robbed in Europe a few years ago and the thieves spent $11 000 on my cards.

So now I'm off to baby stores. That will put the wind up my son! Needs it though.

I would avoid the baby shops per se. Maybe hit Mimco or Oroton (or similar) and ask to see their nappy bags.

Baby store nappy bags tend to be limited to the basics.

The mimco one my wife has she carries under her arm. it has fairly long straps. Cant say I would find it all that comfy but she seems to.

At the local Mimco store I saw the baby bag. For $300 I don't see the value. The fabric felt like nylon? = cheap. The local Oroton store - $499. Nope.
Did see a nice Baby bag at a travel goods store for $135 with the outside bottle pouches.
In the spirit of the Original Post, baby bags don't have the attachment for the luggage handle.
