I've just tried to book a return SYD-AKL trip (out on 25/12/09, back on 9/1/10) on LAN in Premium Business -- the $700 fare. Having gone all the way through the process, including entering payment details, I get this response at step 6 (confirmation):

Code:
The fare you have selected is no longer available for your chosen flight.

We have no [sic] effected any charge via the provided form of payment.

I've checked fare bucket availability on expertflyer, and it shows I9 for both legs.

Has anyone else had problems or success booking this fare recently? Any other explanations for what's going on? Do you think I'd have more luck booking over the phone?

Thanks...

If you book over the phone then it should be easy for the agent to let you know what the problem is if it still fails

I booked the Lan SYD-AKL on tuesday and it was still $700.

X'mas period may be excluded.

I have booked AKL-Syd for October 18th and I got two I class seats for approx $350 aus with taxes each.
I couldn't get an I class from Syd to AKL and they were $700 one way....

I had priced a return SYD-AKL initially at $700, but couldn't pay for that fare, so used a few AA points for 2 X U class bne-syd-wlg...

Got the company to pay for the points.... and the taxes.
Not worried about SC's as everything going to AA rather than QF, and I will make AA Plat on segments this year rather than points/miles...

I just tried booking online again, and this time it worked with no problems. (I didn't get a chance during the day to call the booking number, so wasn't able to ask what was happening.) The booking is also already showing up in my bookings on the QFF website, which is reassuring.

I have no idea what the problem was; I guess just some glitch that worked itself out during the day. Thanks for your suggestions everyone.

Interestingly enough, its $699.20 for a return I fare, but if you're interested in doing a mad status run, 2 consecutive return fares quoted for me at a combined price of $1268.20, great value for 320sc's, assuming LAN will tkt it.

$1268.20 ... ?

I guess some

components are obviated with the transit.

If you book it AKL-SYD-AKL the cost shows as $A636.72. It is always cheaper this way. :D
I am having troubles trying to get a price. How much is a one-way AKL-SYD on LAN? I have a $200 QF voucher that could be used for a BNE-SYD/MEL-AKL/WLG flight and then book the LAN business class AKL-SYD one way flight....

Is it worth asking the question as to why you happened to end up with such a quote? Is someone actually requesting such a trip?

From LAN.com I just plugged in (at random) next Tue 13th Oct AKL-SYD and got $A252.00 plus $A49.11 tax or $A301.11.

Thanks guys. An AKL-SYD flight for AUD300 in business class sounds quite good....

Can we expect these fares to stay around, particularly given their extremely valuable QFF earning? Perhaps Qantas may remove LAN I class fares from points earning at the business level.

Read our AFF credit card guides and start earning more points now.

Why? Correct me if I'm wrong, but if LAN pay QF the appropriate amount of dollars for the crediting of points/SCs, why do QF care if it was a cheap flight?

I don't understand the complexities of QFF points earning across the different airlines and don't pretend to. I was merely asking whether or not the hugely cheap fares would stay around. Hopefully they will

They have been arround for quite some time so I cannot see why this would change.

I was on the Syd-AKL today. To take advantage of the cheap J fare, I flew from Mel to Syd on the 6am flight in order to catch the 9:55am flight. When I got to the counter at 7:45, it was packed already and luckily there was only 2 people in front of me at the J check-in counter. When it was my turn I was told that there was a 3 hour delay and they only found out yesterday afternoon! I questioned them why I was not contacted and they said an sms was sent to my mobile. I never got an sms and I don't think any of the other passenger got one or they won't turn up before 8 to check in.

As I was travelling with a friend in Y class they upgraded him to stop me from screaming.

After from that "slight" hipcup, the flight was a good one. The seat is much better than QF (domestic J seat), Emirates (no flat bed), Air NZ (need me to get off the chair to transform into a flat bed or change back into a chair) but the movie choices is on the light side, It was only a 3.5 hours flight so it doesn't matter.

Only half the J seats were occupied so the cheap fare may continue for a bit longer.

Good to see you had an enjoyable experience even though it was late. I guess it meant you spent extra time in the lounge, so it's not all bad. Least not for you.

The fare has been around for a while, so I don't think it'll be going anywhere (touch wood).
