Last day as VA Platinum

As a data point both mine and Mrs Jase’s review date was Feb 28th.
My review was processed in 4 days and my new review date is March 2nd 2024 with a card expiry of March 16th.
Mrs Jase didn’t have hers processed until March 13th so now has a new review date of March 13th 2024 and a card expiry of date of March 27th 2024

Another data point..my review date was Feb 28th.

My new review date is 13 March, 2024.

However I've done a bit of flying during my review period and none of that has appeared in my new status year.

Email has been sent.

I thought no change in review date if maintaining status? My review date is still 28 February 2024 with a card expiry date of 13 March 2024...

Who knows 🤷‍♂️
We are both long time Plats and usually qualify within a month or two of the new status year.

just spoke to VA about it, there's 30 days over review period you can use lounge etc which we / I know about, but never tested it. Then was told there's 14 days review period which is added to review date on card, so it's 30 days & 14 days having same entitlements, hmm whatever.

As a status-matcher, the promo period ended mid December last, and I had qualified for Plat. Status then 'Under review'. Plat came along mid January, with a review date of mid January.

However I've done a bit of flying during my review period and none of that has appeared in my new status year.

Same, I did a bit mid December - Mid January and these didn't credit to 'retain'. I e-mailed, asking if my Dec-Jan flights, taken when I HAD qualified for Plat, even if VA systems hadn't caught up, might credit towards retain. Nice e-mail back, but 'nope'.

Let us know how you go!

I called this arvo, apparently it has to be "escalated" and I'll hear back in 3-5 business days. It should hopefully be pretty straightforward, I ended up with 803 SC ( and still some Feb Coles SC which haven't appeared yet) so I definitely retained in my own right. Can't see how it can reasonably be refused.

My review period which began after February 28th has ended and reflects requalification along with 4 new Platinum upgrades.

The SC earned this month have been credited to my 2024 requalification.

So, somewhat boringly, as expected.

That's good to know @serfty
Gives me confidence that my account will be properly amended

I will just wait and see if the VA systems are any better than QF, it seems for now I have dropped back to SG. Time to update my status on the side bar. It was good while it lasted.Screen Shot 2023-03-15 at 10.43.04 pm.jpeg

I tried to put my membership on parental pause at the end of 2021 (I had a baby), but VA customer service said there was no need to, as a 28 Feb 2023 renewal date was generous enough. In hindsight, I should have pushed for parental pause. But it's hard being on hold with a whinging baby :)

I forgot to put my Platinum on hold with Parental Pause (and thought the period expired in April, not February... oops).

One call to a Manila agent said "sorry, can only hold your Gold status... and we suggest not applying until February 2024 to get an extra 18 months!).

Would love to have some generosity to extend Platinum by 17 months given my error... not holding my breath!

I'd call again, you might have better luck with a different agent.

Problem is everyone expects generosity and can spin some type of story, then before you know it the free-for-all happens on top of all the gifting Gold which happens.

I just don't fly much anymore so dropped to gold a few days ago.
No big deal for me.

Yes, I'm in the same boat (although technically you keep existing status for a month after the review date - so end of March in my case). I've been VA Platinum since early 2013, so almost exactly 10 years.

I was going to try the Business Flyer status match to get back to Platinum, but I'm not sure if it will work, since technically I will still be VA Platinum until 31 March, which is also the closing date of the current Business Flyer status match offer. Anyone any thoughts on that? Possibly still worth a go?

Failing that, I still get VA lounge access (through SQ and Amex) so all I will really lose is free economy X seating, and as a result I can't say I'm hugely bothered.
Just in case anyone else was considering doing this - I dropped down to Gold last week, but I requested a status match under the Business Flyer promotion and it has come through, so I'm back to Platinum for another year.

With a review date of 28 Feb 2023 I have also been downgraded to Gold and a 20 March VA flight ZQN-MEL was only awarded gold points instead of platinum. With post-pandemic reduced domestic and international routes & timetable it has been difficult to maintain status, and my view is that VA2 cannot see that and has a very hard-nosed attitude. Also adequate recognition of land-based loyalty (AMEX and Citi credit cards, 7-Eleven, Flybuys) is not factored into the review assessment. VA has only a few domestic lounges and no MEL lounge for short haul international. I will only miss the EY F lounge in Abu Dhabi and the Economy X seating, and will use QF more.

They've ran heaps of offers and even gave status credits on reward seats. I re-qualified platinum in the 28th Feb 2022 extension within 1 month.

Qualification is based on eligible sectors and status credits not points. It's a mechanism to reward frequent flyers, not frequent shoppers.

Although VA have blurred these lines a lot by giving SCs via credit cards & FlyBuys. Having said that, I'm not sure why @dfar5370 feels there has not been "adequate recognition of land-based loyalty".
