Late Check Out - does anyone Get it as an Elite Benefit?

Re: How do Hilton treat you as an Elite?

The deterrent is getting kicked out of the room!

Security/police - They have stayed past the agreed time on the check-in document "contract" so they deserve to be kicked out

I think the police have more important issues to deal with then a guest who overstayed his checkout time.

I would take a different approach to this matter.
If a guest stays past his checkout time and as a result of that the room is not ready for the next guest to check in, I would charge the checkout guest an extra night fee and use this money to compensate the check in guest with a free upgrade, dinner at the restaurant or spa treatment.

Also mark the recalcitrant's computer file suggesting no late check outs again at any Hilton

End of the day there are always going to be morons who ignore rules

You can't regulate everything

But you can make future stays much harder :)

Someone on here mentioned that Hilton like to "make notes" on customers accounts if they bend the benefits/rules/price matches etc......

Or SPG where even base members get 4PM unless its a resort/convention hotel.

Though I find you need to remind the CSA of this when they are coding the room keys - sometimes they still code them to expire at noon on the day of departure!

Yeah I know it wouldn't really work just that easily... It would end up being on Today Tonight as well here...........

As for extra charges it would have to be VERY clearly printed and agreed to upon check-in and even then it would get messy....
I suggest a phone call at check-out time to the room stating that if the room wasn't vacated in the next 30 minutes, then there will be a charge against the CC on file. Except of course a recalcitrant guest might say, if they are being charged, then they might as well stay longer. Hmmm

Ah yes but the pre-auth might not be enough to cover it.

How much is the pre-auth these day ? $100 per night ?

I think so. It was more a suggestion of a deterant, to convince the pending overstayer to get their a$$ into gear and check-out or it would cost them.

The Meriton system for late checking out IME is to ring the apartment phone usually 5-10 minutes after the scheduled check-out time and ask if you are leaving or would like to have the paid late checkout added to your bill
(Note I don't in principal mind this hint but think its a bit cheeky 10 minutes after checkout time)

Thanks to the mods for splitting this thread. It's an interesting resource that being easy to find may help others in the future.

Even though I was not overly impressed with the DDYKWIA at the time, I do recognise sometimes cough happens......perhaps they had a family emergency that required their attention somewhat more urgently than a check out time. I'd hate to see OnQ unfairly targeting relatively minor misdemeanors. I think the beauty of OnQ is that it makes it far easier for HH to spot serial offenders and nicely suggest to them there may be other properties that suit them better ;). Of course service recovery in my books, means the next customer should not feel agrieved. I can compare that experience at HSP with a similar (but not so extreme) experience at HBNE. At HSP, I was given access to the EL and pointed toward the elevators........at that time, there was nothing in the EL (not even the jelly beans) and the (soft) drinks fridge was near empty. At HBNE, they apologised for the delay and then the check-in manager (correct title??) personally escorted us to the lobby bar and advised the waiter that any drinks were complementary until our room was available. I can tell you all, I have nothing but complements for HBNE but HSP has caused me to grizzle at times (OK most times). I think that says it all. Service recovery is far more important than the initial problem. I know for a fact HSP had the newly released 4 BDRM penthouse still available but we were not offered that. Realistically, to keep a diamond guest happy, that should have been made available then instead of me grizzling on a FF forum, I'd be praising them from the rooftops!
