so essentially back to 90k offer except delay in crediting the last 12k.

This seems like reasonable value - that's 5x SYD/MEL returns in J for around $1900.

Will this apply to anyone who has bought so far? or just people buying from now?

To be eligible to select an Additional Award Option, members must purchase or gift 60,000 AAdvantage miles through the buyAAmiles or giftAAmiles program in a single transaction between 12:00 am CT December 16, 2013 and 11:00 pm CT December 31, 2013

You're talking about one way (I think)...I was asking about return as that was what the other poster mentioned.

Yes, one way, I think the OP misread the chart and such use is poor value IMHO

Taking into account the forex rate and tax its over $2000 aud for the 90k. Still not bad for a return to Asia in j plus something like a Per-akl one way in J with a little left over

I'd see it more as a one-way F to Europe and a gift to a less fortunate friend of a one-way Y in Australia/ New Zealand.

But only for people who have not already bought any miles this calender year right?

Thats AUS Asia, within Aus inc NZ J is 17.5.

I am sure you're right.

But I'm confused to read this line

It seemed to suggest for a return trip in J (say SYD MEL) it will be 35,000 miles

Did your 17.5K refer to one-way trip ?

Also, what does the 60,000 miles between South Pacific (Oz) to South Pacific (NZ) in J refer to when Serfty mentioned PER AKL costs 35K ?

Thanks from an AAdvantage "freshman".

"Wholly within listed countries", check the footnote indicator.

Oz/NZ is considered one country for AAdvantage purposes.

This is something I am not aware of. Many thanks !

The South Pacific bit threw me off course, listing Oz and NZ separately.

EDIT:

I found the footnote on a different webpage. Thanks

Worth keeping in mind that the total amount is 2.00972 US cents per mile under this promo (after you finally get the remaining 12k miles).

This compares to 1.88 US cents per mile for 100k US DM miles, which will be assumed to become AA miles, and assumed to be next month when transfers can be done. Of course, if you have no US DM account, or you need to book something with oneworld very soon, the US DM offer is no good to you.

that is ASSUMING you can simply do a transfer to AA and I'm not convinced that would happen immediately

Hmmm... that's awkward. There's a very healthy contingent who are kind of relying on that.

Anyway, you basically underscored one of the key differences of price - time.
