Latest information about 28 degrees card

The Flexiroam app appears to have reset access to MC discounts / freebies with the changeover of years.
Seems to be the case. I tried to reactivate and received a message indicating it has been used.

It may be a simple matter of waiting a few days before initiating a new one.

I found flexiroam expensive when the free offer is exhausted, using trip.com for China etc. still kicking myself for not registering for flight delay flying MU to PVG in Sept, figured my QF gold would be ok, a delay of 24 hours saw me rebooked on an airline that didn’t have lounge access.
Yes, OT but their “rack rates” are high. The sales make them more affordable. I don’t mind paying a tad more to know my data is being routed through countries I’d rather it didn’t.

Seems similar to Airalo these days but with more discounts available (including the permanent MC one).

Always worth looking for cheaper options in single countries. Some of the smaller eSim operators seem to effectively rebadge local plans.

Not surprised that the 2024 data expired at the end of 2024. Is 2025 the same deal (3GB, 15 days?)

I've currently got eSims installed from Flexiroam, Eskimo and Firsty (more as a backup)

Yes, it’s there in the app. Also days that unused plans from 2024 have now expired.

Other options also discussed here.

I’m trying out Ubigi in Europe. Kolet is worth exploring. Monty is cheap but like several, routes through Asia (despite being a UK company).

FlexiRoam is working well for me via 28 Deg MC.

I set up my 2024 freebie on 29 Dec and managed to use up the allocated data by late on 1 Jan 25 in Indonesia, Japan and now the US.

So I just tried it again and have been allocated my 2025 freebie! Which I’ll now activate and use for the next few days before heading to the Caribbean. Unfortunately it doesn’t seem to have agreements or access on most of the islands, so I have a separate Voye eSIM lined up for there.

Planning to cancel the 28 Deg card on return to Aus anyway, so this is an unexpected bonus.

You’ve done well. I didn’t appreciate that until I got to the Caribbean that it really is a dog’s breakfast of which nation is covered by which eSIM provider.

Okay, it’s actually not going well.
As relevant background I have used up the 3GB data (avoided using airport or hotel wifi whilst I had what I thought was going to be sufficient eSIM data) from what I will refer to as the 2024 FLX esim, but the plan still has over a week to run. It is still sitting in my account with ‘0 MB data remaining’ and a TOP UP button waiting.
2024 FLX esim worked well in Indonesia and Japan, and on arrival in the US it connected to T-Mobile LTE and I’d been using it fine for the past 48 hours.

- Applied for 2025 freebie today and the FlexiRoam site recognised my card and confirmed it was eligible. ✅
- I confirmed I wanted it (2025 FLX esim) now and two emails arrived within about ten minutes. ✅
- I went into the app and the new plan is there (in addition to the used up plan). I activated it and it went green and displays active with 3GB remaining.
- With that sim the only active one in my phone, it again connects to T-Mobile LTE. ✅

But, nothing happens. I can’t use the data with google maps or to open web pages.

I had an hour long online chat with FlexiRoam staff and they got me to try toggling all the usual stuff. Sent them screenshots etc. Still couldn’t make it work. In the end they gave me a new eSIM and I added those details and it is now active and working exactly as described above. But can’t access data.

My hypothesis (even thought I asked them to fix this specifically), is that my account with FlexiRoam is still trying to use the 2024 FLX esim plan that is empty. Even though I have a different active and topped up plan, I think it’s still stuck trying to use the 2024 plan. I can’t delete it as it still has 10 days to run. I asked the support chat to delete it but they haven’t.

‘My plans’ in the FlexiRoam app, looks like this:

I had to do all troubleshooting and chat with the FLX agent via the Smithsonian museum wifi. 🤨
So, no esim today.

Yes, you probably are in limbo while that 2024 plan timer runs down! 😳

Airalo has a freebie 500MB / 3D “Welcome Plan” that could tie you over for now.

I actually typed and then deleted thinking I was wrong (based on your earlier comment) that the unused 2024 plans were cancelled and I presumed those that started late in Dec that straddled Jan 2025 would have also been cancelled.

SYD+1’s 2024 plan should have run through to about 1 Jan but appeared to stop (probably around midnight on the 31st USA time.

I actually had the reverse problem in 2023. For some reason I uninstalled and resinstalled FRX eSIM and the freebie 15D plan ran for ~20D until I consumed all 3GBs….
