Latitude 28 Degrees $8 per month starting September 2024

I have applied for a lot of cards over the years......have never seen this!

Sure there are exclusion periods, but all that means you can't get bonuses if your an existing or recent customer, eg like 18 months ANZ, Amex rule etc
This is also an exclusion if applying for the same card, not a different one as implied by the OP.

A DC is your money. A CC is their money. Guess which one gets resolved faster!
If you travel to a few hotels in the week, they all have their deposit for a week. Quickly adds up and locks out some of your CC limit.
I'm a lucky one with the fee waiver. Will be keeping it for another year.
And never use a debit card for rental of car. It took a week for the deposit payment to be released after car return and the actual Charge had also posted. No money left. It was over Christmas so even immediate money transfers were too slow.

Yep, you’d be better off using any other CC for the hold (even one with 3%) but try and settle the final amount on DC.

I used to switch CC all the time (my corp card used to be on my AVIS profile but would pay for private rentals on my personal card at drop off).

When traveling OS, I will sometimes use a regular Aussie card when making a non-pre-paid booking and for the security hold, then at check-out I ask to pay with a different card (e.g. 28 Degrees). Keeps the "hold" off my low-limit 28 Degrees card.

I’ve often used an Australian (3.3% FX fee) CC for the ‘security deposit’ hold and it has never shown up on a statement. No FX fees ever, even for 45 day US rental.

The only reason it would appear on a statement would be if they had to call on that deposit (eg damage to the car).

Apologies in advance, because this is going to be quite annoying…

I did not get the fee waiver e-mail or SMS and I did not call to have a big wet sookie whingeathon at Latitude either. What I did do was send them a polite, unsarcastic e-mail that included the evidence provided in the e-mails that others had received (helpfully copied and reposted in this and other forums) and suggested that I had missed out for no apparent reason despite seemingly falling into exactly the same category of 28° user.

I then patiently waited the required 2 days they said they would take to respond. When that response didn't come, I helpfully re-sent the original e-mail and patiently waited another 2 days. After five days of waiting for a response with no reply, I sent the e-mail a third time and suggested they have a problem with replying, with just a hint of a sacastic jus for garnish this time.

Just got the response right at the end of the day before the weekend. We've credited your account with $100 you'll see it in your account within 24hrs and on my next statement. So, no official fee waiver or exemption for me, but I do get the equivalent (+$4) in credit on my account in advance right now to cancel out and compensate me for the $8 fee they are going to continue to charge for the next year instead, and of course if I can charge $1K/month to it, I can claim the gift cards too. I'm calling that a win.

…and yes, this is on top of the other $24 credit I got to compensate me for the anticipated problems I expect to have cancelling my card in the 5 day window between my next statement payment date and the production date of the following statement with my first $8 fee on it.

Nah, I'll do the right thing and keep it going for as long as the compensation and the gift card redemptions cancel out the monthly fees. At least it gives me the opportunity to test the system and see if I can make the gift cards work to cover the fee. If that's easy and painless to do (unlikely), then I'll keep it, but as soon as it becomes an intolerable burden, then it's gone.

Just checked my account and yes, I have been charged the $8.

So, will be emailing a complaint.

It’s really quite funny reading this thread, personally glad I dumped the card but always amused by those who value their time so little.
What are you now using instead?

I’m pondering my options over the next 12 mths.

I’m fortunate enough to have an ANZ Travel Adventures card (no longer available) but I think there have been a number of other credit cards mentioned in these forums with no FX fees. Yes, not a lot these days but after all you only need one. And more and more I’m using my UP and Wise cards which yes are debit cards but no/low FX fees.

I think that if you are an existing ANZ credit card customer you may still be able to get this card as a product swap. That’s how Mrs V got hers and the card was no longer publicly available then

$120 p.a. ongoing annual fee.

I'm always bemused by those who value their money so little as to choose to pay fees to extremely profitable institutions for using their own money. By contrast, I just got Latitude to pay me $124 to keep using their card for another 12 months. Yes it took some time, but I still think I'm ahead.

Yes but does earn points unlike the Latitude card, and on the $25-$30k spend that my wife and I put through the card this more than offsets the fee. Plus included Travel Insurance also saves me hundreds.

Each to their own but fees are only one part of the equation. I agree that some may make the 28 degrees card work for them but the points and travel insurance make the ANZ card worth it to me.

If i have to pay a fee it’s in return for services. ANZ charges me a $79 annual fee, for which i get outstanding travel insurance for just a $250 spend (compared to some cards that require the full cost of the tickets or a much higher spend).

I was happy to pay the modest fee for 28 degrees given the thousands of dollars i’ve saved in exchange rates, without the fuss of having to make a minimum number of transactions or whatever else some cards impose.

True to their word, the $100 credit is in my 28° account this morning. Which is kind of a pain because now I have to fully investigate and get my head around how I'm going to get the gift card each month for the next year and a bit.
