I have applied for a lot of cards over the years......have never seen this!

Sure there are exclusion periods, but all that means you can't get bonuses if your an existing or recent customer, eg like 18 months ANZ, Amex rule etc
This is also an exclusion if applying for the same card, not a different one as implied by the OP.

A DC is your money. A CC is their money. Guess which one gets resolved faster!
If you travel to a few hotels in the week, they all have their deposit for a week. Quickly adds up and locks out some of your CC limit.
I'm a lucky one with the fee waiver. Will be keeping it for another year.
And never use a debit card for rental of car. It took a week for the deposit payment to be released after car return and the actual Charge had also posted. No money left. It was over Christmas so even immediate money transfers were too slow.

Yep, you’d be better off using any other CC for the hold (even one with 3%) but try and settle the final amount on DC.

I used to switch CC all the time (my corp card used to be on my AVIS profile but would pay for private rentals on my personal card at drop off).

When traveling OS, I will sometimes use a regular Aussie card when making a non-pre-paid booking and for the security hold, then at check-out I ask to pay with a different card (e.g. 28 Degrees). Keeps the "hold" off my low-limit 28 Degrees card.

I’ve often used an Australian (3.3% FX fee) CC for the ‘security deposit’ hold and it has never shown up on a statement. No FX fees ever, even for 45 day US rental.

The only reason it would appear on a statement would be if they had to call on that deposit (eg damage to the car).
