If you buy a service you should pay for it, or you run the risk of that provider withdrawing their service. Or taking other measures. I doubt PER expect a result here, but I'd say they've drawn a bit of attention to VA's "commercial sense and judgement". I doubt PER is the only debtor annoyed with VA.

The funny thing is, VA still continue to operate in and out of PER on charters and certain RPT runs. The aircraft that PER airport "blocked" all had covers on and weren't going anywhere.

Agree - whilst blocking the aircraft at PER may be just drawing a line in the sand, they obviously have an idea where they stand in the queue lining up at the door at VA. The old saying that 'possession is nine tenths of the law' could still apply.

PER - claims Qantas owed $20 million in aviation and rental fees unpaid since February.

QF - The airline said it had paid rent on leases for February and March and the breach notices related to non-payment for April and May. Qantas has previously stated it would not pay the owed aviation fees until it receives payment for the terminal in the order of $200 million.

Qantas collected the airport charges from passengers and isnt passing it on. Regardless of their own profit(or not), using airport charges for working capital is not the purpose of airport charges!

QF and Perth Airport currently under arbitration to determine the value of the Terminal which QF sold to them last year, so using that as an excuse for not passing on airport charges is silly.

I'm not in the know of the details, but If PER is unnecessarily delaying the payment of up to $200m to QF for a terminal QF owned and sold to PER and QF are now getting charged to use that terminal, then QF might feel it's reasonable to withhold paying the leasing charges until they get paid for the sale of the terminal.

The problem is the amount that Perth owes Qantas is disputed. Perth Airport says $50 million, Qantas says $200 million. Quite a gap, and it is being arbitrated. At the moment, until that is decided, no-one really owes any money on that.

Outside that, there are a bunch of leases etc, which are another matter.

But a big bone of contention is the per passenger charge that is levied on passenger tickets (it's even in there as a surcharge). This is not being passed on.
