Let The Music Play or NOT !

I unfortunately have some long haul QF A380 fliglhts coming up. Is the music gone on these as well?
 
I used it on my flight a couple weeks ago, may have been a once off? Or maybe it was because it was an international flight
I have a few more domestic, trans Tasman and other international flights coming up so will test. I’ll be providing feedback whenever I can!
 
I just submitted my feedback. Nothing beats sitting back listening to the many radio channels with the moving map on the screen. Nothing is more relaxing. I hope its not another enhancement.
 
I’m glad this has been raised. I was really confused on my last flight. BNE-PER. Where was the darn music hidden? LOL. I gave up super annoyed but forgot to do anything (re: providing feedback) by the time I got home. I shall email now. The the entire IFE system was pretty poor selection but to have no music is a real shame.

This is my go to also. Listen to Billboard at low volume and every so often peak a the map to see how far to go.
 
Thanks everyone for responding to this thread. I'm glad I wasn't alone in my disappointment with Qantas over this "enhancement".
I provided feedback via the website and got the standard reply. The witness updates are much appreciated from flights both Intl or Dom.

Podcasts are largely useless as tend to be "time relevant" whereas music is timeless
 
Great post - and agree.

Nothing but podcasts on the tadio channels - cant think of anything worse. They could have kept some of the radio channels with music.

No, they are completely different things. Most IFE systems play some ghastly default at you unless you choose something else, so my first action when I put the headphones on is to go and choose some music that I like. Then I can navigate the system, look at the map, etc, without listening to cough. I'll find a movie to watch. When it's over, my chosen music selection will come back. A podcast does not in any way fulfil this role of default background music.

Some good news. Music was available on my SYD-AKL A330 flight earlier this week.
 
Music also available on the A380s. Albeit the older, clunkier IFE system.
 
Audio was sadly missing on HBA to MEL and return in mid-July. Like other commentators I really enjoy(ed) the Qantas music offerings and have done so for decades. Podcasts just do not hit the spot and I don't want a free, limited time subscription to Apple Music as part of an internet connection. QF59 Dreamliner MEL to LAX had the full Qantas music channels available on Wednesday night (8 Aug).
 
Thought I would bump this thread, I must have missed this when it was brought up.
Got a rude shock when there were no music at all on Qantas 737 domestic and the Qantas 787, good luck keeping your customers happy.
I thought Virgin selection was poor, Qantas music selection by comparison was non existent.

In the in-flight magazine, there is an invitation to send feedback to "[email protected]". They were far more responsive than customer service. The entertainment team (who maybe don't hear from customers all that often) responded within 48 hours, as opposed to customer service, who responded 4 weeks later with the usual boiler-plate nonsense (completely missing the point of my message, as usual). FWIW, the reply from the entertainment team stated "we simply cannot compete with the amount of music now available for free via online services". Hmmm. I guess that gets some of prize for a "nice try".
Anyway, the entertainment people assured me music would remain on international, but was indeed gone from domestic. I guess on those A330's that service both markets, you could get lucky domestically, unless they have this down to a very fine art, and the music vanishes on the basis of the origin/destination airports! I responded with 7 bullet points explaining why I thought removing music was regrettable, and they replied to that promptly as well, saying that all of my points were valid, but ... only indicating they will continue to "evaluate our entertainment options, and consider the feedback we receive". I know this is a first-world problem, but for some reason I remain seriously worked up over this. I can only think the real reason, given that the music (including radio channels, I was assured) remain on international flights, is that Qantas need to pay APRA AMCOS royalties on the basis of the music's availability or actual "plays". In other words, that this comes down, as usual, to a cost-cutting measure. On the other hand, one of the emails from the entertainment team also stated: "In total, we’re investing more in entertainment and wi-fi for our passengers now than at any point in the past."

Thanks for the address. I will add them to my feedback list. I was encouraged by CSMs to give feedback, for what it's worth. At least one told me it was cost saving, to free up funds for new projects (though she freely admitted she had no details) and a tie-in with Apple.
 
Had the full music library on A330-200 Mel/Akl and then again on A330-300 Akl/Mel last weekend. The customer service manager mentioned that it has caused a lot of complaints from Domestic customers and to keep up the emails to get them to reconsider. You would think a quick fix would be to leave the playlist stations on domestic and not the complete CD music library
