There were plenty of Concordes Around 14 of them. A couple of them did the scheduled TATL flights each day. BA's JFK services were 3 hours and change, and the Barbados flight - also regularly scheduled, was just under 4 hours.

Then there were the charters. Lots of those.

I found a post where someone said they paid USD700 for a Concorde joyflight in 2000, but they didn't make it as Concorde was grounded by the time their flight was due.

Today at lunch I was taking to the only 2 people I actually know that fly F regularly and actually pay it (or their companies do), no points “gaming”, no roulette of “will I get an upgrade or not!!!” ... sure they are a bit older than me (late 50s).... neither of them have even heard of this forum.

So I wonder... is the real top .5% of the top .5% that actually routinely fly in F worrying about these things???

IMHO, there’s something wrong in an industry where unquestioned F travel is an irrelevant cost; customers are being ripped-off something chronic if that industry can afford that.

I’ve never seen F return to Europe on EK or QF for less than $10k. Sometimes it’s $11k. But I’ve never seen it less than $10k

1. Is an F return to Europe 12 hours flying time because that was the claim being addressed?
2. ...and this might be a bit of a shock so you might want to a) sit down, or b) sign up for Sid James Frequent Flyer Stockholm Syndrome clinic, but there are other and significantly better and cheaper airlines than QF or EK.

Also I have never ever said that Qantas is the best at anything. I’ll give you $4 if you can quote me saying qantas is good.

But.... I’ll take you up on your challenge.... better and cheaper than EK? Sure we can do cheaper, but “better” is subjective, and I’ve already exhausted myself arguing that one. I took a random sample of 3 airline “surveys” and the worst EK did was #6

Now I do my overflow flying to Europe on BA and cope with the sometimes inexperienced MF cabin crew in BA F who don't know the difference between a Sancerre and a Cabernet then it's all good with me

Probably not. But this board is for people interested in airlines and FF programs.

Maybe the top .5% of the top .5% chat about other things? Like where to buy their next vintage motor cheaper than list price. Or spend an inordinate amount of time sourcing that case of vintage Bordeaux they've been after. Maybe they complain about when their supplier goes bankrupt. Or the case they just bought is corked. And maybe someone asks on one of their forums 'does anyone else worry about these things?'

Dash 8s are perfectly fine.

I flew a QF Dash-8, which means no opening of the back door, and the thing’s so small everyone was out a coupla minutes after parking at the terminal; in fact they killed the props before we stopped (I assume so the doors could be opened sooner). I watched the VA landing shortly after, they opened the back door so everyone was out even faster.

They should fly Dash-8’s to Europe, we’d all be out so fast the trip’d be virtually 20% shorter!

Give it time and maybe Qantas will offer the Dash 8 as their next generation of international connectivity for those poor Perth folk

Someone's calculator is misbehaving,return to Europe is more like 44 hours, not 12, even in F!

One of my neighbours is Ex-CL - I was really surprised how quickly he was dethroned when he retired from his job as CEO for big important company. Almost instantly dropped to Gold - and his wife (who got Plat), dropped to silver.

He now flies VA.

Do you really think that? I am also Qantas Plat - more than 10 years now I reckon - and the past year I have come to think the exact opposite of what you just said! Which makes these conversations so interesting - I think Qantas' domestic product has really gone down the toilet these past few years. So much so that I am seriously considering giving them the flick. I have made my 1200 SC already this year - in only 4 months. Am I tempted to go for P1? No way. Nooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo way. In fact, I have committed to not spending another cent with them until my anniversary... and even then, with LTG in the bag is it worth it?

I don't mind Virgin. In fact, I was pleasantly surprised when i first flew them in April this year. I have only flown in J, mind you, but VA's J product is not "streets ahead" of QF's....

VA may actually have a better business class offering.

For economy I think Qantas is better and yes perhaps streets ahead. Better aircraft, better seats, longer seatbelts, better inflight meals/snacks and drinks, better lounges with better food and beverage on offer, better partnership for international flights.

And I definitely think Qantas have friendlier FA's that are streets ahead of Virgin FAs. Everytime I fly Virgin I get the impression the FAs are there to police which is not a good feeling.

Interesting how we all see things differently! On a QF plane, you see a friendly face - but I see a tired old leather shoe dressed up in a terrible uniform

But as is the case with almost everything, your impression is only as good as the most recent flight.... thank the heavens my VA flights have all been good so far
