Life Time Gold - The [Realistic] Holy Grail

Their key competitor now has an LTG tier too, so now they are really only differentiating themselves with the LTP tier.
Oh wow, I didn’t know their competitor had LTG now.
The competitors LTG requires 75% of the SC's to be earned flying their coded flights - which has a limited network compared to oneworld. QFF's LTG can be earned without even flying QF - quite a differentiator IMO.

There is one exception, which is BA Gold Lifetime (and above).

Technically, if you don't fly BA's sector requirements, you won't get BA Gold naturally (there are also Double Tier Points/Status Credits for BA too); however, once you've hit that limit, you should just become BA Gold Lifetime. Additionally, BA doesn't discriminate their Tier Points accrual as Qantas does with Malaysia Airlines. However, as usual, do your calcs on specific fare buckets to see which pathway is better - it could be QF LTG or BA Gold FL

Made LTG on my flight to Dallas. Though QFF didn't post the SC's for it until a couple of days later, meaning the connecting flight posted first which pushed me over. So maybe it was an AA flight that got me there?

No emails, no notification on the app/website for me at all. If I hadn't been watching my LTG counter I wouldn't have noticed since I never use the digital card.

CX MEL-HKG got me to 13999 SCs.

Fittingly a plane to plane escort ensured I made the very tight connection so HKG-TPE pushed me into LTG.

Dropped from WP to SG in October so some irony it was CX that pushed me across the line.
I got pushed over the line by status credits they were offering during Covid on a Qantas Wine order. I was ok with that :)

If QF lowered the LTSC needed for LTP to a more attainable level they might introduce a requirement that a significant portion needs to be on both QF marketed and operated flights. Otherwise I think LTG will remain the sweet spot.

The easiest way to keep a LTG flyer engaged in the program would be to reduce the requalification requirement for WP to say 700SCs, rather than the usual 1200.

That would be enough for me to plan my future flights around requal, rather than look for the best value fare irrespective of alliance.

Of course it won't happen.

I’m LTG but I’m finding it not that hard to requal WP on my on coin now that I’m time rich. Haven’t really relied on DSCs, but that’s an obvious shortcut route to 600 SCs (x2)!

Hard to justify when East Coast to EU/NA return in J on QF is A$13k, and on competitors, you can find comparable fares for 30% less.

DSC relies on being able to book all your flights during two narrow windows in a year. Impossible for me and I am sure many others.

All depends on how much value you get out of WP as to whether it's worth that extra spend.

I’m in Europe now for $3.5k + 114k points QF/QR J (return).

There are work arounds (see the DSC thread).

For me, it’s about the same spend to earn VA WP under their new rules coming but OWE is far more useful!

The idea of points instead of cash is the point of LTG
after all you get permanent lounge access for FREE!

There’s some really. CHeap spends

Give them no easy money

I Don’t feel inclined to chase status credits
And if you really want the dom J you can buy a competitive J airfare upfront but Adelaide never had a J lounge so I didn’t get hooked on J travel except during DSC dog legs

To qualify as WP involves a fair outlay of cash one way or The other
$15,000 pa if on the slow track
Lowest ever heard was $3,500 what with status runs and DSC

So presumably you won't be earning the full complement of 600 SCs for this rewards booking?

In any case, I'm not spending points for deductible work-related travel, unless its for an upgrade to F, which I am not permitted to book.

For private travel, I am condemned to school holidays, so it's simply not possible to get enough seats in J cabins to make the points spend worthwhile, even as a WP.

There are work arounds (see the DSC thread).
Doesn't work for me as all work-related travel must be either booked or quoted by a contracted TA who take more than a week to come back to you by which time the promotion has passed.

Personal travel is generally domestic or Trans-Tasman Y, so frankly not worth the effort to buy and park DSC flight credits for a bonus 10-20 SCs per sector.

I'm glad it works for you, but as has been dealt with in multiple forums, no FF program is a one size fits all proposition.

My work related travel comes out of my own budget, which is not unlimited.
