Life Time Gold - The [Realistic] Holy Grail

we're not married to Qantas.

Easy to say.........hard to do

This is an alien concept in modern business. The cost of retaining customers versus the cost of acquiring new ones seems to no longer be a concern, as all the benefits are only ever offered to new customers to a business.

Fine, if they want to play a market let game, we are all free to walk way, we're not married to Qantas.

All businesses work in a market.

I think Qantas treats established customers with greater care than new customers - or am I missing something?

I’m another who has largely let the QFF cards wither post achieving LTG. I got VFF WP the year after and *G the year after that and have mostly maintained those.
Have still greatly enjoyed the shorter QF/oneworld check in lines, the extra baggage allowance and the lounges here and there, but have probably only earned 100-200 SCs per year in QFF.

Star Alliance and Virgin are just where I’ve found better value for the past ten years.

Now, with VFF set to dramatically change how I’ve mostly maintained WP, maybe there will be some more regular QF journeys in my future.

And that's before they even do a massive devaluation of the program ala BA. QF's last devaluation wasn't really, as they offer DSC promos all the time ...

I’ve switched my spending to star and I think since I’ve been lifetime gold which happened on a trip back from South America just before Covid, I don’t think I’ve got more than 50 status credits each year with Qantas that have flown numerous other airlines all in long haul J or F

With the amount of points being thrown around to QFF members for earning and spending that is unrelated to Frequent Flying, I'd say they're chasing a much larger audience than just flying customers now.

But that’s not really treating new customers better. They just have extra points they can’t use in a way that they’d hoped - like going Business class to cities QF don’t even fly…🤷‍♂️ (there’s a current thread on on that one).

I mix up my flying to maintain WP (achieved LTG over 10 yrs ago), but when I am on QF metal longhaul, I do seem to get treated better than other airlines.

LW, congrats, and welcome to another club!

May I ask how long this achievement took and whether it was consistent or in bursts?
Thankfully it’s not since my join date (Feb 89), rather when they started the current version of SC’s (@serfty will know the date). My annual earn since 2013 (when I switched most flying to VA) would be barely 600 SC’s per year and barely nothing over the last couple of years. QF gets flights when they have the best fare and timetable to suit my flying.

I’ll go back and tote up the last 10 years
