Lifetime Gold or not ?

You must be doing things differently to me. I'm in the regular queue and get special treatment too.

Flew out of BNE on SQ last week. I made a huge effort to get away from the new detectors.
Is any of that relevant to airline status?
In terms of Lifetime Gold I used to think it was worth it. I've got it now but if I was ~5,000 SCs away I would not be spending money to try and get there quicker.
I remember your threads:

Those were the days. I remember life membership was $440… which back then was a lot of money! Would have been a good investment.
I actually met someone in HND who was a lifetime member. She commented her father had recommended she buy it back in the day. She would have had to been in her seventies.

That's a similar situation to me. I just ticked over to LTG a year ago, I got over the line with status credits from a Qantas Wine order - rather appropriately says MrsK. I only have 3 years left of my working life, so hitting LTG now is good timing, as I can use it when we start travelling again in our retirement years.
We are both in the retirement phase of our life :).
It is interesting to read people's views both for and against who are already LTG
Husband is fine with not trying to achieve it. He is LFS

Yes of course it is. We get nothing special through security based on airline status. There used to be priority lanes but they're gone as airlines don't want to pay for the privilege.

And yes I had some fun getting to status. That was a long time ago. Times have changed. Platinum used to have meaning. Benefits have eroded and now closer to Gold than old Platinum.

I've got 10 years, maybe 15 years more flying. With a young family travelling to Thailand twice a year during school holidays I'd be looking for cheapest fare of the day. Except for the little one, my wife and I can do carry on only soon as we could leave clothes/golf clubs in our house.

I just started out on my frequent flyer journey now that I like to explore different places (in my late 20s). Reading the experiences here and looks like there was some perks back in the day. Lifetime Qantas Club membership used to be available, now the only way is LTG... interesting.

LTG is better than Lifetime QANTAS Club though.

Ah, was talking about the Qantas Club access, I see the other perks of Lifetime Gold like free checked baggage, earlier access to international reward seats, priority check in etc. For me the lounge access is the biggest benefit.

Similarly, global lounge lounge access when travelling on OW airlines.

QC used to have reciprocal arrangements with many other airline lounges but that got whittled away as OW status and perks got rolled out (amongst other changes).

Notwithstanding LTG and LTS around now :)
Hasn't the lifetime one been gone for many years ? As in perhaps four decades ?
Not sure why corporations would add extra benefits when a programme has long since been gone ?

Anyhoo... LTG is on the cards. Perhaps when I was working for Telecom (yes pre Telstra )I knew about these wonderful things I would almost be there lol however mine is all self funded :)

Book mark this. It’s the only FT thread I routinely check. If you have the time and means to take advantage, there can be some amazing deals.

If you are in your 20s and think you will do a lot of travel why not join BA. They have an LTG much more valuable than QF LTG as it is OWE.
Especially so if the special BA fare SYD-BKK return fare with side trips to Asia comes back. I got ~ 2000 Tier points with 2 of those fares plus a few domestic Y trips on QF. You need 35000 TPs for their :LTG so at that rate would make it in 17.5 years.

I took a look at it recently as it would be easier to hit lifetime BA Gold, which is about the same as Qantas WP. No minimum requirement for BA flights but it is still a fair bit of flying. Sydney - Melbourne in Y at 40 TPs?

Will have a think.

Do the sums. lifetime BA gold is just a bit less than 900 SYD-MEL flights. So only need to do 1 a fortnight for their LTG.
Precovid tghough they had specials on the BA SYD-BKK fare at ~ $A5000 for the BA sectors in F and the Asian sectors in J. Could easily get to 800 TPs with that fare. so 21 years doing just that = LTG.

And therefore reasonably achievable from a long way out.

We probably put more planning into airline status than we do retirement planning !!
