Theres an old lady who was in my seat. Now she is whinging and giving me dirty looks coz I booted her. Care factor zero but clearly she doesn't understand that.

Boarding pass in hand... (stealing JohnM's monika  )
I have booked seat 2K for my DXB-HKG flight. Will be following with interest for ideas for our first time to Dubai.

I didn't think it was Pushka who was whinging. Hopefully the old lady got some champers too and calmed down.

Yes. Indeed it was her whinging. I was beaming still. And at the end of the flight she came up to her husband and said what a disaster the flight was. He asked what her problem was. He had a great time being left in peace to do exactly what he wanted :p.

The flight went well. Service was excellent as was the food.
First the delightful warm nuts and Dom.

The table was set very precisely

Then Caviar. I dislike seafood but seem to like caviar. Go figure as they say.
ImageUploadedByAustFreqFly1451272340.337111.jpg
Then seared chicken which was very nice.
ImageUploadedByAustFreqFly1451272673.402370.jpg
Then Macadamia nut slice.

Rather replenished by now with frequent Dom top-ups - errr - refills.

Managed to get a few hours sleep with a very smooth flight. Then thoughts turned to breakfast. A very light one of fresh cold fruit and croissant. Tea then coffee. What? No Dom? :( :p

We landed early then taxied forever. Then could see we would need a bus to get to the terminal.

Groan. Just what we were looking for after a wonderful flight was to be hanging by the rafters with a pack of people. :(
We exited first. But wait. There was a dedicated FIRST bus. No, not a bus but a limo bus. Leather seats and nary a strap to be seen.

This is my idea of a bus.

Is that cranky pants in the beige?

Oops, somehow I missed reading the line on the whinger as it was under the pic on my phone and my glasses aren't what they should be - DOH - I see what you are all talking about now! Glad whinger's spouse had a good flight without her.

Breezed through Immigration and luggage waiting. Organised the Emirates Chauffeur and we were immediately on our way - 5.45 am.

The place where we are staying is near the Palm - Atlantis. Window view is refinery, desal plant - industrial, but the Hotel itself is delightful.
The main lobby with multiple suspended lanterns and Christmas Tree:

After an excellent breakfast in the Club with Veal bacon we plan to catch the hotel shuttle to the Resort on the Palm where we can stay as guests.

Love_the_life - you are a duffer.

An impressive Amenity kit. Love the perfume which is a nice big bottle.

Ibn Battuta gate, fitting, he's a famous historical traveler of that region from which a lot of contemporary accounts rely on to this day.

Yes. Every floor represents a country he travelled to. We are on India floor with Indian style rooms.

A bit weary from the overnighter so decided to take the hotel shuttle to the water park on The Palm. Perfect weather for me - 25 and sunny.
Interesting seeing the style of architecture on the Palm. Like sand castles.

Many buildings appear in pairs, including the NY Chrysler style buildings. Why build just one when you can build two?

Nice and sunburnt now. Heading off to afternoon tea (Club) then I am off shopping. Then back to the Club for drinks and mini meals. Then an early night.

Afternoon tea was pleasant not brilliant.

This is the map of Ibn Battuta's exploration - found in every lift.

Best Starbucks I've ever seen.

The Ibn Battuta Shopping mall is themed according to the countries explored by Ibn. Didn't get to China and Andalusia (Spain). The Indian people were thronging around the elephant.

The mosaics are stunning.

Pleasantly touched by the sun.
Thought this breakfast item was raspberry yoghurt.

It wasn't.
Guesses?

Today we are doing the Big Bus tour. An expat Aussie friend (our work appt next Tuesday) said this was a great way to see Dubai in a snapshot.

Taking MrP to the souks. Gold. Spice. Perfume. Fabric. ;). He is in for a fun day. I am giving him tomorrow off.
