London Oyster Card v Australian Credit Cards

Hi all, I guess two of the cards many of us will be wondering about are the Citibank Plus card and ANZ Adventures card.. any data points on their compatibility?

Not sure about the ANZ, but my Citibank Plus card didn't work when I was over in late October - the card worked perfectly everywhere except on the tube

You can also use your contactless card to get from LGW into London which can save time queuing for a ticket

Used CBA mastercard April 2016 and December 2016.

Note that it seemed to process (pending) some transactions at a "standard" amount (looked like equivalent of GBP1) and then "settled" at the actual price once processed a couple of days later. I guess this relates to daily/weekly travel and making sure the correct amount was charged.

It was certainly easier than worrying about an Oyster card (which I have - and accidentally left back in Aus).

And agree - at LHR the queue to work out the ticket machine was well worth avoiding!

Topping up your Oyster card with loose coins during your stay and prior to departure (for regular return travellers) is something I like about my visitor Oyster Card.

Bit if you don't have one already then the tap is great. Plus saves you £3 fee (replaced by CC fees as applicable).

I was over in London for the Rugby World Cup in Oct 2015 and had no issues using my Westpac Visa on trains and buses, definitely easier than Oyster for a one off visit. I did experience issues ING Direct Visa Debit so maybe it only works with credit cards and not debit cards. HTH

If gates are open, how do you know if the card has worked or not? (Its been a while since I was on the tube). I assume a red cross on or by the card reader thingy. I plan to use 28 Degrees ...

Any other experience with Citi Debit? I see on the TfL web site it says pre paid cards might work ...

In November and January I used an Amex card - worked well.

Generally an audible beep indicates success.

I have been using Australian credit cards instead of Oyster card on trips to London since October 2014 without any problems at all. It is so simple and works so well that it is disappointing that we will probably have to wait another 10 years for Australian transport systems to catch up.

A recent visitor from London couldn't believe the time he wasted looking for a one trip Opal ticket here in Sydney ...... and then he went to Melbourne where he found he had to buy a Myki card for $12 for a $2.36 fare!

What happens when travelling as a family? I presume everyone needs a separate card, including children?

The annoying thing about this is that I have a senior railcard and that discount is applied to my Oyster card but can't be applied to my credit card. Most annoying because I'll be in London for six weeks soon and I thought it was one less card that I had to carry and I have a UK debit card so wouldn't even have to worry about exchange rates

If you buy a Senior Railcard, you can set the discount on a standard adult Oyster card to get 1/3 discount on off-peak rail travel.

[h=2]Discounted/free travel[/h]Discounts can't be added to contactless cards. This includes all National Railcard discounts.
If you're eligible for discounted travel, you should carry on using your existing Oyster card or Oyster photocard.

I've used Apple Pay on my phone. I can handle a couple of % for the convenience.

Doesn't apple pay randomly generates a cc number each transaction? If so I think you won't get the weekly maximum and stuff like that

I think the number is generated for that iPhone for that card so it will pick up your multiple rides a week. Interested if this isn't the case.

Can anyone confirm Bankwest World MC works? It should being a MasterCard, but can anyone confirm?
