Lounge Access changes pending that affect all?

Re: Galleries access... NOT quite 'reinstated'?

Good to see the web pages have changed back to allowing "arrivals" J and F passengers to the LHR arrivals lounge.

Re: Galleries access... NOT quite 'reinstated'?

LOL so which lounge will you be using if on a business max to Bali with JQ at 1830?

Mmmm, interesting, I was looking at booking this exact flight for October mainly using Jetstar for lounge access as a QFF SG, but if it is going to be closed what is the point! Looks like Virgin might be getting my money instead.

This is another case of JQ and QF being separate companies when it suits them. If status can be earned on JQ (which it can) then the benefits of that status should also be able to be used when flying JQ! The more flights QF cancels, routes through SYD or transfers to JQ they won't even have a need for an INT lounge any more in MEL.

Re: Galleries access... NOT quite 'reinstated'?

Been like this for a long time in ADL. Kick people out immediately after the last QF flight despite a couple of later JQ flights. Pathetic.

Yes I realised this was currently the case that most lounges close after the last Qantas flight even though there are Jetstar ones afterwards. It is just a degradation of what they have to provide, saving Qantas money. As more of it happens (which it will with Joyce at the helm) the flights you are able to use the QC on will become less and less. In my opinion they should be open for all Qantas GROUP flights.

I only mentioned it because I thought one of the east coast lounges stayed open for JQ flights; BNE maybe?

BNE/TSV and MKY are all "last departure" lounges, however the mention of MEL closing internationally before the last JQ departure is something of a precedent I suspect.

Also means nowhere to go for the FJ flight later at night (or has that changed too?).

Just a question, what happens with this if say I had bought a Business Max fare which entitled me to lounge access when travelling Jetstar?

I think the information provided at the point in which you have the choice of selecting a Max fare says something like "lounge access (where available)". Therefore, I don't think you'd have any recourse.

A nice get out clause, but flying out of a major port such as MEL it would be expected by most passengers that lounge access "is available" especially when paying the inflated Max fare.

Looks like Qantas's services are reduced to being dependant on "get out clauses"

I have just gone through the Jetstar website as if I was booking a Business Max fare and there is no get out clause or * referring to somewhere else. It purely states that Lounge Access is included with a Business Max bundle. Qantas are shooting themselves in the foot here, they are going to have angry customers rather than keep the lounge open for an extra 45 minutes.

I have sent feedback through the Jetstar online form, Qantas online form and [email protected] so it will be interesting to see how much handballing occurs and what their response is.

My reading of the lounge access for biz class is that you have access to the QF clubs in Australia, and where available, at ports outside Australia. Two separate concepts. However it then goes on to say there are terms and conditions for entry... but I think this just refers to the general rules about things like behaviour (the normal club rules).

However, don't all JQ international flights with a biz cabin depart during the amended lounge opening times? (so this becomes a non issue)

Good luck with your complaint, it's clearly listed in the fare types and fare rules parts of the website and on the itin in the rules:

Why not enjoy a little star treatment before you board? Business Max passengers have access to the fantastic Qantas Club Lounges in Australia and at destination ports, where available*. If your Business Max flight departs from the Gold Coast, you will receive complimentary access to Jetstar’s very own lounge. This relaxing lounge will get you into holiday mode before you’ve even stepped foot on the plane.

Business Starter fares do not receive access to lounges.

*Terms and conditions apply to Qantas Club access and is only where available.

The MEL-DPS flight departs at 1830. So as I was saying they only need to keep the Business lounge open for an extra half an hour or so. Just seems silly business practice to me, annoy your paying customers for a minimal cost saving.

Oh yes I see, my apologies. I was doing a search for my friend going to DPS over the school holidays and the flight time showed as 0630 (yup it was the non-stop flight) and i thought at the time that was odd because the DPS flights always used to leave in the afternoon. I even checked the return flight which was still at the usual midnight time (so i was wondering why the plane would sit in DPS all day). This error seems to have been corrected and the flights are back to 1830. Maybe they are thinking everyone should be making their way down to the plane at 1730 or so...

It's all in the placement of the comma.

"Qantas Club Lounges in Australia" and "at destination ports" are both grouped together before the comma. After the comma comes the caveat, "where available", meaning it applies to all points before the comma.

If it had read "Qantas Club Lounges in Australia, and at destination ports where available", it would be a different story.

I don't know if anyone has thought about this re: JQ Business Max fare expecting Qantas Lounge access if QF have closed the lounge due to last departing QF flight, but I find it interesting that it is stated as where available (implying a geographic limitation) vs when available (a broader time and geographic limitation).

Either way - if I paid JQ inflated 'Business' Max fares I'd be pretty pissed off to find part of the product unavailable. Another case of "Qantas - A Jetstar Group Airline" (when it suits us)
