Hi guys,

tricky question, maybe someone here knows the answer?!

I'll be going to the US in 3 weeks and the flight there will get me across to Gold.
Because of that, will I instantly be able to enter the Lounge in Dallas or how is that going to work?

Cheers
David

Hi, sounds like you have a connecting flight. Basically it depends upon how quickly the points/SCs post from QF7.

While it often does happen before you land, you will need to access your account on line to see if it does post and then ask the lounge AAngel to check your status before they will let you in.

You won't be able to access any lounges until the SC post to your QFF account and your account shows you as Gold.
I don't think they will have posted when you land in Dallas.

I was denied access to an AA lounge a few years ago more than a week after my qualifying flight as my new status wasn't reflected on the BP for some reason. Logging into my account and showing them my Gold status didn't do anything - they still refused to let me in...

Asking an agent to remove and re-add your FF# can potentially help it "read" the new status as it likely still sees what it was at the time of booking.

You can also do it yourself via Finnair MMB if you have internet access and haven't had your boarding pass printed out with the old status yet.

So I guess I just have to check and see after landing if my status online has been updated and/or be very nice to the agent at the lounge.

@eminere: What does Finnair have to do with this?

I'd say "and". If it hasn't updated with QF you won't be able to get into the lounge.

You can remove you QFF number on your booking using the Finnair website. Plug in the booking reference number.
If it's updated to Gold then re-add immediately and it should show your updated status.

What would be the process for that Finnair thing?

Arrive in Dallas, log on to Finnair, remove the QFF number, save, re-add and check status on Qantas website?

Sorry if this is a really stupid question.

First check to see if your status credits have posted on your QFF account if they have then you should be showing as Gold.
If that's happened then log into Finnair and remove your QFF number from the booking and re-add. The booking should then show your updated status.

To be honest with you I'd have a back up plan if lounge access is important to you. $50 and any Amex will get you into the Centurion lounge at DFW, free if you have a Cent or Platinum Charge Card, or else an AA day pass for the Admirals Club.

Check your Qantas account first to see if the qualifying flight has posted and you've ticked over to Gold in the Qantas system. If (and only when) this has happened go to the Finnair site and perform those steps to manually force your booking to reflect your new Qantas status.

One should always be nice to others. However, if your status hasn't updated to Gold in the Qantas system then officially you're not entitled to lounge access.

Finnair's MMB is a trick used by those in the know to add/amend/delete frequent flyer details after you've made a flight booking.

As it can take the QF website a few hours or overnight to post their own flights, you might be a bit ambitious expecting AA flights to post quicker. My experience is 24 hours. YMMV.

As I read it, the flight to the USA gets to gold, they are arriving in Dallas, that implies a Qantas flight.

To give everyone an update:

Upon arrival in DFW (on QF7) I checked the QF app, nothing updated. I then logged out of the app and back in and I ticked over to Gold, also on the QF website.
Walked to the QF lounge, which was closed, we were sent to the AA lounge and they didn't accept my status, said it has to show up in the AA system and don't "care" or look at the QF status.
Fortunately, after checking, my OneWorld status was also updated and they let us in.

Hi David,

Sorry to hear you had some issues at the AA Lounge. Glad you were able to access and hope you enjoyed the flight!

For an AA lounge it's really not worth the hassle. They are very ordinary.

Good to read it all worked out for you David. How did you check your personal Oneworld status? Is there a way to look up one's personal Oneworld status or did the AA agent call some Oneworld service desk?

On the same note, I can see it would perhaps be really useful for such situations and maybe others if Qantas was to make available on our personal FF page an electronic FF card (as the physical card would be) to present or even download onto our devices.

Im guessing they refreshed his profile.
The Qantas system probably linked through to AA and showed up as One World Sapphire once they refreshed.
