Background to this thread
We have noticed an increase in the posting of questions regarding what Airport Lounges are available at specific airports when travelling on specific airlines. While one can be assured of access at the airline lounge when travelling on that airline (provided you have Lounge membership), thing start to get complex when travelling on a codeshare or partner airline.

Posting Guidelines
Please post your questions about Lounge access in this thread. Be sure to include the airline you are travelling on, the airport (and terminal, if known), and any Airline Status or Airport Lounge membership programs you have.

When answering questions, please include the original question. This will assist in readability and management of the thread.

WTF are Virgin doing
Well on the one hand VA2 stipulates clearly in its J class experience webpage that it does not operate any lounges in the international terminals.

On the other hand, it could have come to some agreement with a open access lounge operator such as Plaza Premium to provide lounge access. But because of its stipulation, there should really be no expectation of international terminal lounge access.

Hi all,

My daughter has a flight from Sydney to Haneda, stopping over at CNS.
She is flying Jetstar the whole way, and has no status with any airline.
I was going to give her one of my Qantas lounge invitations, but the question is, would she be allowed to use it in the CNS T1 terminal?
From what I've read, the Reef lounge is the one serving Qantas passengers, but there are some questions about who is allowed access to the lounge, not sure whether a complimentary lounge invitation linked to the international flight will allow her access.

Any thoughts?

It appears the complimentary lounge invitations are only valid for the domestic Qantas Club lounge - at least in Cairns.
Only Qantas Club is available when trying to link the invitation to a flight in CNS.

Hmmm... it seems even though it allows you to link your complimentary invitation to a Jetstar flight you won't be able to use it:
  • The Cairns – The Qantas Club is not currently accepting Complimentary Lounge Invitations for JQ passengers.
Those complimentary invitations are next to useless... there are so many restrictions.

Good evening, hoping to lodge my lounge help desk request. I'm flying CX as a QF Gold departing PER, which lounge would I be eligible to access? Thanks :)

restricted from time to time
I'm struggling to find times and locations where I can use those invitations...
One success out of 3 attempts over the last 12 months.
Just have to let the rest of them expire unused.

I totally understand that they need to control the numbers accessing the lounges. But in that case, don't give out so many complimentary invitations, leading to disappointment when people find out they can't actually use them in many locations.

don't give out so many complimentary invitations
Sure but that's the nature of a complimentary anything. There is always going to be some expiry. There will be people who can use it and some who can't/won't. The point of a comp lounge pass is to encourage people to buy airline tickets. CNS is not the only QF Pub.

One could say the same about FF points.

The way I look at it, complimentary passes are to encourage people to apply for a particular credit card, or whatever product offers you complimentary passes - not to encourage flights.

FF points are a bit different. You might not be able to use them for a particular flight, but they stay there and you can use them next time.
With the complimentary passes, if you can't use them on your planned trip, you lose them.
But I can see the different angles of looking at this.
Anyway, now that I've vented, it seems less of a big deal... :)

Till they expire. Lots of people let points expire because they can't use them so they don't bother.

Sure, comp passes are often associated with a CC, but an airline ticket has to be purchased to use them,

Sorry you can't use it...for what it's worth, having been through a few QF Pubs they are not necessarily the bees knees

The QF PER international Lounge
Eligible due to QF Gold flying on QF flight number or a one world flight number - in this case CX plus one guest flying same

Also the CX lounge

This is not correct. QF no longer have a lounge at T1. You can't access the T3/4 lounges when departing from T1 either. Also, CX don't have their own lounge but are using the Aspire lounge as per the link I posted.

Sorry, late into this thread. I rocked up to Cairns lounge as Qantas P. Flying Air North on what I thought was a codeshare with Qantas. Turns out it wasn't and was almost turned away but they let me in. Good on the lounge dargon!

From the QF website:
  • Domestic – can be used at any Qantas Club domestic lounge when departing on a Qantas or Jetstar flight number.
  • General – can be used at any Qantas Club domestic lounge, Qantas International Lounge or Qantas operated International Business Lounge (excluding Los Angeles Tom Bradley Terminal) when departing on a Qantas or Jetstar flight number

Good reply. It is always worth checking the Qantas web site.

I am travelling WLG-MEL on Qantas then codeshare Qantas/Emirates MEL-DXB-MAD and back GLA-DXB-MEL-WLG. I expect my partner and I will have access to all lounges. Also hoping MAD-FRAN lounge access on Iberia.
