Background to this thread
We have noticed an increase in the posting of questions regarding what Airport Lounges are available at specific airports when travelling on specific airlines. While one can be assured of access at the airline lounge when travelling on that airline (provided you have Lounge membership), thing start to get complex when travelling on a codeshare or partner airline.

Posting Guidelines
Please post your questions about Lounge access in this thread. Be sure to include the airline you are travelling on, the airport (and terminal, if known), and any Airline Status or Airport Lounge membership programs you have.

When answering questions, please include the original question. This will assist in readability and management of the thread.

(Special thanks to Princess Fiona for suggesting this new thread.)

Re: Advice for LAX lounging

Hi, I am hoping to get some guidance on how strict the CX and QF HKG lounges are with guests.

I'm travelling with my parents on KA (on a CX codeshare) in December, but as QF Gold (maybe Plat by the time of the flight) I can only guest one of them in. What are my chances of getting them both admitted? I'm really hoping to get them into the CX F lounge if I can...

My dad is lifetime QF club so my "backup" plan is going to the QF lounge - although I don't think that would get him admitted there either (since he isn't on a QF/JQ ticket).

Unfortunately you will be limited to the exact guest allowance/lounge permitted by your status at the time. You a also right about the qantas club... need to be departing on a QF/Jetstar flight.

QF has to pay CX for lounge access, so it's really up to whether QF wants to pay CX. The CX staff don't have authority to give away free lounge access.

QF / Emirates Lounge Access

Over the Christmas period have a trip organised and need some clarification and advice on lounge access

Outbound, Perth - Melbourne - Auckalnd (QF ticketed, with the international flight is Emirates)
Inbound Queenstown - Sydney - Perth (All QF)

4 Adults including myself flying in J on all legs and 2 adults in Y.
2 adults in Y have no status

3 in J have silver access and I have gold with a suspended QC.

If my reading is correct I can guest 1 into the lounge at all locations and 1 misses out?

Would you go the Emirates or QF lounge in Melbourne?

If i ebay some QF passes are they accepted in NZ?

Cheers

Re: QF / Emirates Lounge Access

Pax in J can guest the Pax in Y.

Yes clazman, if you have four pax in J on QF flights numbers, they can each take in 1 guest as long as the guests are on the same flight:

[TH]International Business[/TH]
Qantas International Business
Next onward flight that day must be a Qantas marketed flight. (QF flight number)
One guest allowed and must be travelling with the member on the same flight.

Thanks for your thoughts - shame, but can't be helped.

You can always swap boarding passes with your dad and your parents can use the CX Lounge and you can go to the Qantas Lounge.

Or you can all go into the one CX Business lounge very simply. Guest one parent into the Business lounge and guest the other parent into the First lounge and then walk through to the business lounge and you are all together.

If guesting at the same time to circumvent guesting rules, you'd run the risk of having your Qantas membership suspended or closed.

7.1 of the Ts and Cs covers this:

7.1 Members must not:
(a) act in any way which breaches these Terms and Conditions; or
(b) abuse or misuse Qantas Frequent Flyer, any Rewards, Awards, Benefits, facilities, services or arrangements accorded to the Member as a result of Membership including by:
(i) engaging in illegal or fraudulent activities;
(ii) supplying or attempting to supply false or misleading information, or making a misrepresentation to Qantas Group Company or any oneworld Alliance Airline, Airline Partner, Qantas Interline Airline or Non-airline Partner;

We have been through this before and you were not able to find anywhere where it mentions visiting more than 1 lounge with a different person is fraudulent activity.

We are allowed 1 guest into the lounge. HKG has many lounges available. There is nothing anywhere that mentions the guest has to be the same person.

Next you'll be saying visiting more than 1 lounge is against the terms and conditions as Qantas gets charged more than once.

I have copied the relevant section of the terms and conditions... guesting in more than the allowed limit by visiting different lounges could easily be covered under 7.1 (b), the abuse or misuse of a benefit ('one guest permitted').

Terms and conditions don't always need to fully explain every single detail and possible permutation and combination... some nuances are implied, or readily implied by the wording.

Hong Kong has around 7 lounges operated by CX/QF that a OneWorld Emerald could have access to (5 for a OWS). To suggest one person could guest 7 otherwise ineligible passengers into lounges at HKG simultaneously is probably a stretch of the rules.

I am allowed to guest one person into each lounge I have access. Once I have exited the lounge and visited another my guesting rights start fresh. I have no moral obligation to ensure that one person is the same person for each lounge. In my opinion once I have visited a lounge and exited the lounge that visit is over. Rules start all over again for next visit.

How about this scenario? HKG-BKK-HKG-SYD on same day? Guest your wife on flight to BKK but then you return to HKG and then SYD with your brother. Please don't tell me I am not entitled to a guest because I have used up my one person quota for the day?

And not sure how Qantas will ever find out what I am doing in the CX lounge. The guests boarding pass is not scanned. Sometimes not even sighted. And if it is scanned then don't try to bend rules if that worries you.

I am entitled to 1 guest in each lounge. Qantas will pay regardless of whether it is 1 person or multiple people. Although in saying that sometimes I do feel guilty when I visit a few lounges in HKG and don't like what I see inside so move on. That costs Qantas money but let them worry about it.

Indeed, and the key, as you mention, is 'once you have exited the lounge' will also apply to your guest, Your guest is there with you. To honestly hold your hand up and say you can visit 7 lounges in Hong Kong, with 7 guests at the same time, is a misinterpretation.

As for lounge hopping at Hong Kong, QF pays a single lounge entry fee for your flight. That's why CX tracks lounge re-entry (blue stamp for business class, red stamp for first class). QF is not charged 4 times if you visit 4 lounges. They are charged once. If you have two separate flights for the day, QF will be charged twice.

If QF decided to audit lounge entry and discover multiple concurrent guests, they would be within their right to launch remidial action under section 8 of the Ts and Cs (account suspension and you have 21 days to reply).

Re: I'm in the QF Lounge thread

Hi all,
I am flying with QF SYD-SCL next month (Y+) and then connecting to CCP (Concepcion) on LAN in Y.
Are there any lounges that I can access in the domestic part of the airport as a OWS after I have cleared immigration etc?
I have had a search and can't find any info whether LAN has a domestic lounge there.

Just an update for those connecting to a domestic flight in Chile on LAN after arrival in SCL, there is no LAN domestic lounge you can access once you've cleared immigration etc. :(
However, the new LAN lounge in the international departure area is very nice! I am enjoying great views of the runways, waiting to board QF28.

Re: I'm in the QF Lounge thread

Hi all I just wanted to clarify my interpretation of the VA International Lounge site.

Going to Seoul and Las Vegas next year. I'm looking to book Singapore Airlines and Delta for the respective flights. I wouldn't have access to lounges unless the flight numbers began with VA, is that correct?

If no lounge access, I was wondering if it may be better to book with Cathay or American Airlines, so I can build up my Qantas SC? Or just try to reach Platinum with VA.

Re: I'm in the QF Lounge thread

Hi all,

I have a couple of flights coming up and just want to confirm if I have any free lounge access or if I'll have to buy a pass.

Both flights are with American Airlines, domestic first class. One flight leaves LAX Terminal 4. The other leaves ORD Terminal 3 I think. I don't have status with AA, but I do have gold status with Qantas. Thanks.

Qantas Gold is Oneworld Sapphire. This will give you lounge access via American Airlines' AAdmirals Clubs.

Domestic USA First class on flights to/from ORD is not, by itself, eligible for lounge access. So you cannot use the First Class Flagship Lounge.

Sweet, I wasn't sure if oneworld sapphire would have access as they seemed to word it in a way that seemed like they were referring to other carriers. Thanks for that!

American Airlines' own status passengers do not have domestic lounge access unless they are on an international itinerary, or have purchased AAdmirals Club membership.

For status members of all other airlines, usual OneWorld benefits apply (sapphire gets access).

It is a bit hard to respond without more information about flights and class of travel.
However I can answer on the basis of your VA Gold status.

If you are departing SYD with SQ you will have access to the SQ SilverKris lounge in SYD.
If you are departing SYD with DL you will have access to the Air NZ Koru Lounge in SYD.

I don't know if you are flying ICN-LAS with Delta or if they are two trips.
In Seoul at ICN Delta uses the Korean Airlines lounge and it looks like VA Gold members have access there when flying with Delta.
This isn't shown on the VA website but I did a bit of research on Delta's website.

If you're flying with Delta you're likely to stop over in Seattle and you would have access to the Delta Air Lines Sky Club there.
You might have additional stopovers at Salt Lake City or Los Angeles and the lounge access in either would be the same.

You don't need to be travelling on code share flights with a VA flight number to have lounge access.
Of course if you are flying business class or better than you may have better lounge access.

Hope this helps!

Oh sorry I didn't specify I was going to ICN and LAS separately. So the legs will be:

SQ: SYD-SIN-ICN-SIN-SYD

DL: SYD-LAX-LAS-JFK-LAX-SYD (doing multi-city)

The alternative to ICN is with CX, and to LAS/JFK is with AA. These alternative fares are cheaper (especially with Cathay's current sale), but no lounge access.

My biggest fear would've been if I purchased an expensive fare, only to find out I do not qualify for lounge access because my flight number did not begin with VA. So you already did me a huge solid esseeeayeenn. Many thanks :D
