Background to this thread
We have noticed an increase in the posting of questions regarding what Airport Lounges are available at specific airports when travelling on specific airlines. While one can be assured of access at the airline lounge when travelling on that airline (provided you have Lounge membership), thing start to get complex when travelling on a codeshare or partner airline.

Posting Guidelines
Please post your questions about Lounge access in this thread. Be sure to include the airline you are travelling on, the airport (and terminal, if known), and any Airline Status or Airport Lounge membership programs you have.

When answering questions, please include the original question. This will assist in readability and management of the thread.

(Special thanks to Princess Fiona for suggesting this new thread.)

Re: Advice for LAX lounging

Can a Qantas Platinum flying EK F access the Qantas lounge at TBIT in LAX?

The QF website lists that lounge as a Qantas lounge, not an associated or joint lounge.

I'm not a 100% sure now but when the joint EK/QF deal was struck up it specifically excluded lounge access in Americas, NZ and South Africa. Obviously NZ is now part of the Alliance but I'm not sure the rules have changed for the US

Unfortunately, as PF mentioned you won't have access. QF international lounges which are accessible as a WP when flying EK are indicated in the eligibility criteria specific to each lounge, here is Hong Kong:

One guest allowed and must be travelling with the member on the same flight.[/TD]

And for LAX (no mention of Emirates):

Re: Advice for LAX lounging

Hmmm. That was my fear. However, I did see this:

Frequent Flyer - Flying Qantas and Partner Airlines - Status Credits and Tier Benefits - Tier Benefits

Lounge Access

Platinum members may access the following lounges when your next onward flight is on a Qantas^, Emirates^, Jetstar Airlines* or oneworld operated and marketed flight[SUP]34[/SUP] regardless of class of travel. Access is also provided to one guest and up to two children (aged 4 -17 years)[SUP]37[/SUP] who are travelling with you on the same flight.
International Lounge access before your flight

  • Qantas First Lounges in Sydney and Melbourne, enjoy a range of facilities including a day spa, restaurant, library, private work suites and concierge service. Tour the award-winning First Lounges. Tour the award-winning First Lounges.
  • Qantas Business and associated lounges in more than 28 key Qantas destinations around
the world offering fresh, delicious dining options, shower facilities and private work areas.
    View our worldwide lounge locations.
  • oneworld lounge access in over 600 oneworld airline lounges, including First lounges where available, around the world when flying a oneworld alliance airline.

And one of those "Qantas Businness and associated lounges in more than 28 key Qantas destinations . . ." is the LAX lounge.

Of course, the same page does later refer to EK lounge access in locations that exclude North America.

But are these two pieces of information not entirely contradictory?

Those Lounge access pages on the QF website are an absolute dogs breakfast IMO. They need sorting ASAP.
Take the J and F Lounges at AKL as an example. The J Lounge access has been updated to include EK flights but not the F Lounge.
I think the website can definitely be added to the list of things in which QF have continued on a downward spiral :(

Back on topic I don't think a WP will have access to the TBIT lounge flying EK.

Hi everyone

I've booked a QF OOL-SYD-CBR flight in Business class, but my SYD-CBR flight will be in Y as it's operated by a Dash-8.

As I've booked a Business Class flight but one leg doesn't have business available (due to the aircraft type, not because I booked a Y ticket), will I still be able to access the Business Class lounge in SYD during my transit? I unfortunately don't have the eligible status to provide me access to the lounge when I'll be flying.

Thank you.

I cannot find the QF official policy on this but my belief is that you will be entitled to access the Business Lounge in SYD.

Thanks for your reply Princess Fiona. I did call QF and ask and was brusquely told 'no', but I didn't feel that was correct. Totally understand had I booked two separate flights and one was Y, but this is one booking.

Should I ask at check in at OOL if my BP can have 'Business' printed on it or if I explain the situation at the Lounge would that suffice?

I would ask at the Lounge in SYD. Show your BP for the inbound sector along with your CBR BP.
The SYD staff are generally very reasonable (unlike the staff they used to have in T2) so I'm sure they'll understand.

according to the rules the answer is 'no'.

For wholly domestic itineraries, the next onward flight that day must be in Qantas business class. For international flights, you only need to be connecting 'to' or 'from' the international flight.

However - as PF points out, one would hope the lounge staff are accommodating. I don't think it is possible to get 'business' printed on your boarding pass unless you are actually flying business?

Hi MEL_Traveller

I assumed that there is a system implementation to that 'Business' is only printed when the pax is actually booked into Business. My booking for SYD-CBR does say Economy, though the whole booking was done under Business as OOL-SYD is in Business.

It's a bit confusing and I can't seem to find any information anywhere online. If there was a SYD-CBR flight available in Business, I would have chosen that, but the only one available was the Dash flight. Hopefully Princess Fiona's advice works and the Lounge staff in SYD allow me entry. It's only for an hour, but if I can have something to eat and charge my phone I'd be very happy (as I wont have time to do this when I'm in Canberra, until I get back to the airport that evening).

Sorry, a further question about using SYD domestic lounge as arrival lounge.

May I use an INTERNATIONAL QF boarding pass to use Qantas free terminal transfer bus, from T1 to T3? I wonder will they check as this service is supposed to serve passengers transferring from an international flight to a domestic one, but not in the other direction.

Thanks.

The bus serves passengers transferring between Domestic and International QF flights. It doesn't matter in which direction you're transferring.

I've recently used the inter-terminal bus after a QF CBR-SYD flight to connect with a CX SYD-HKG. Didn't enquire on the policy for this - maybe I got lucky, or maybe they allowed me as WP, or maybe a OW allowed connection, like the bags transfer.

I checked that transferring to OW flight is eligible. I was just not sure whether it is eligible to travel from International terminal to Domestic Terminal, while my onward flight is an international one.

Hang on... you are saying you want to travel from the international terminal to the domestic, without a domestic boarding pass (ie your only boarding pass will be an international one)?

Yes, will they check?

someone with more experience will have to answer that, but I know they scan the boarding pass before you board the bus. I don't know whether that would limit entry to pax holding QF group tickets or not.

Thanks. Hopefully they will allow me to use the transfer service with a same day international boarding pass. I just wanna use the domestic lounge.
