Lounge Wi-fi, gone?

Shrek was off to HKG ( again !!) yesterday from SYD and yet again the wi-Fi was down in the FLounge. He was not offered but asked for an Ethernet cable.
What on earth is going on with Telstra and the wi-Fi in the Lounges?
This is beyond a joke according to the posts in this thread.

Did not work in MEL F/L yesterday - I asked about it and was offered an Ethernet cable.

Same with SYD T3 J/L - did not bother requesting a cable, simply used Lounge PC's and my netbook with 3G modem for sites that needed Flash.

Perhaps it is overloaded with all the WP Anytimers?

It's been so unreliable that I have boosted my mobile data allowance and now don't even bother to try to connect to it.

The end result is that QF once offered something of value to me, they stuffed it up so many times that I've made other arrangements, so their value proposition becomes weaker and weaker.

If only VB offered direct flights to my usual destination, I'd be there in a flash!

Phone call from QFF today - they are "investigating" and will get back to me.

Dredging up old thread, but have had multiple calls following up this matter after I gave feedback. Same QF rep has rung me each time.

It turns out, their WiFi is being intermittantly overloaded as it was desgined capacity-wise essentially for computers (only) to connect, which was small-volume, but with so many people with smartphones, as well as continually using the wifi and auto-connecting (meaing large numbers connected, even if not actually downloading), and that they are always on, meaning always connected, the wifi in many of the lounges is being re-assessed to try and make it more reliable, but obviously would be an investment that would have to pass all the usual internal hurdles I imagine. I guess feedback from those experiencing issues might help to push the case.

Was impressed they followed this through and got back to me repeatedly until the found a definitive answer. The feedback system can work.

Sounds like Telstra needs to reinvest in some new infrastructure for the QPs, WIFI is not expensive in that context and blanket coverage with capacity to handle 1000 users would not be a big expense. Having 802.11B access points is a joke as it stands.

During most of my visits the wifi has been OK.

Out of interest does QF have ethernet ports you can hook into if things get really urgent (and do they have ethernet cables you can borrow)?

Today at SYD T3 JL - could not connect (ended up using HSPDA dongle).

Was in First lounge LAX on Sunday and tried to connect in vain. Guy watching me laughed and said dont bother he had been trying for four hours. Extremely frustrating when you have an expectation it will be available and by the time you get to the airport lounge not any alternative available.

As a reminder, once your computer has an IP address on the network, go to this address rather than try to wait for it to be auto-redirected which is where a lot of the delay has been experienced in the past :

Telstra Wireless Hotspot - Login

Obviously bookmark the above when you have access to the net before going to the QP.

EXCELLENT suggestion. Have done so. Maybe make it a Sticky?

Hey Red Roo, when will QF get a move on and fix this? You said you listen and fixed the JQ points posting issue,

so how about some more Red Roo muscle power to fix another real problem?
