Love at First (Lounge) sight - MEL/SYD Autumn 2015 menus

How is the typical table availability in the Sydney lounge 8am on a Monday? Got a trip coming up and wondering if I should reserve a table?

I tried the breakfast yesterday in MEL - Corn Fritters with avocado, tomato jam, creme fraiche, bacon, and I added two poached eggs.

It was delicious, though I would have preferred the fritters to be more pan fried and larger, rather than small deep fried balls.

No one in SYD managed to get into the spa today-fully booked! I'm so FULL! Breakfast, lunch and dinner in 1 sitting! Great meals, thanks QF and AFF friends.

Actually I had one (facial) before you arrived but it was booked the day before due to me flying F. :)

At the lounge now. Had the poached snapper noodle. Much lighter than I expect. I like.

2 hours until my overnight to HK... What to do?

Buffalo mozzarella with heirloom tomatoes and basil. Lovely start but the real winner was the Heemskerk pinot noir. Yum! Rooflyer is on to something with this tassie gig.

Next salt and pepper squid with a carlei pinot gris. The pinot is nice but the squid is the winner; tangy and tender. Both entrees were very fast.

Today's calorie intake is already blown so why stop?

Ragu with St Hallett butcher's Cart Shiraz. When I saw it I thought it looked a bit Meh but the rich flavour was lovely. The Shiraz was a wonderful accompaniment ; comfortbfood and wine combo.

For dessert plums and gingerbread with cab sav. A lovely way to end, the plums were naturally rich yet light, the cab sav was a great match with the plums. Would have loved.another dessert but after 4 courses Noble One was all I could muster.

Alas no RWT in the lounge but did have some great food, Down side after being in the lounge for an hour and 50 minutes and 3 drinks we were refused anymore as new policy is no more than 3 drinks in in 1 hour and 30 minutes. Not impressed.

On the upside Daughter got to meet and have a photo with Red Foo in the Sydney F lounge.

.

I really don't know where this RSA stuff is heading but on any level it's really not a good thing IMO in terms of customer service and experience in a premium lounge unless the patrons are truly drinking to excess.

I have yet to see anyone in either of the SYD or MEL F Lounges that I consider would or could be refused service in the average hotel bar.
Very disappointed to hear of this Ansett :(

Pics from today's visit. I think I was there around the same time as Ansett. Didn't take picture of the squid as there's no shortage of that picture in AFF or internet in general :-).

That's disappointing to hear.

Great photos TKK

Someone needs to close down their f-stop ;)

If that is the new permanent policy - no more than 3 alcoholic beverages in 90 mins - then that will be the death of the QF F lounge.
Most coughtails have more than 3 standard drinks - does that mean only one coughtail in that time frame?!

Ansett - how many were travelling with you?

On the other hand I can see how QF has recently recorded a profit!

Very disappointing. Especially as (unlike in Sydney domestic J lounge or Cairns, for example) the glasses or shots are always strictly to measure in the F lounges in my experience.

And I thought I saw that chauvinistic idiot in the MEL J lounge on Friday.

Hi Jut to clarify this was the Melbourne Lounge and in total there was 4 of us Mrs Ansett myself and our Daughter and Son in law. None of us were loud or rowdy, we were all well dressed and mannered.

By contrast n the Sydney F lounge yesterday there was no sign what so ever of RSA especially given that one could help themselves to wine etc where as in Melbourne it was all under lock and key.

I for one have always loved the Melbourne F lounge and if this is the way forward then it is very very disappointing.

Thanks for the info. Doesn't sound good at all. I am not aware of any anecdotes of RSA "enforcements" on a solo traveller but maybe time will tell.

My next MEL visit is in July and I haven't been there for 18 months. Shame, because the smaller size tends to lead to a more personalised level of service compared to SYD. With SYD being closer, that may not necessarily be a bad thing now...

Does that mean they have taken away the self pour wine in MEL? Just that small "buffet" station next to the fridge?
If anyone is going through MEL soon, could you take some photos of the self serve area?
