4/ Rather than fiddle with SC/point earning rules, simply increase the ~ requirement for Status Levels.

Eg. 4~ required for Silver.
8~ required for Gold.
12~ required for Platinum (or even 16).

Can't agree with this. Way too easy to get Platinum. If all those ~s were in international J, then yes. Domestic J, still a no. But if they are in Y, then too many would get that in the first month; holidays to Europe = 4 to 6~, then 3 or 4 work trips SYD-MEL and you're a plat! Crazy talk. For the other 11 months you can then chase status on DJ. Or fighting the hordes of recently upgraded people to the lounges. Not a good idea thing for QF, or the current SGs with Club lounge access or higher.

The ~ system wouldn't work as it doesn't differentiate the different earn to Qantas based on J or Y, flexi fares or red e-deal etc.. Pure red e-deal flying, then the ~ have to be closer to 70 a year. Reflecting those that travel each week for work and being rewarded for staying with QF. But an international J flyer will probably require 8~, domestic J would require 20~ and then flexi Y would be closer to 40~. And so you see- it has now become as complicated or more so than the current system. So, it doesn't make sense to change to this.

You've misunderstood. Current platinum requires 1400/1200 SC + 4~. What is proposed is to change that to 1400/1200 SC + 12 ~. That is harder that the current requirement.

Yes - what Medhead said (thx).

My suggestion is to make it "harder" to obtain status on QF by increasing the "QF Minimum Segment Requirement" or "~" as we know it.

Thereby putting the "Frequent" back in Frequent Flyer.

You would still be required to reach the necessary SC level as per current requirements (300/700/1400).

Yes, I have misunderstood. This is a good idea. It is also harder than the current requirement and makes sense for Qantas as QFF program. Given that I am moving to London next year, will probably not be a good thing for me - but I can see where it would be good for Qantas.

Can't see how limiting the number of elites will have a positive effect on QF.......however, I can see how it would be good for the elites that remain.

I see the advantage in this suggestion being that it is a better tool than changing the goalposts on SC requirements or fiddling with points earn.

It applies a modest (but reasonable) hurdle to achieve status that only penalizes non-QF flyers and those who should probably be in another program. It also penalizes your "2 trips to LHR in F" flyer - but that person doesn't need status as they receive all the perks via COS anyway.

The loyalty bonus (which as Serfty stated replaced upgrade credits) was supposed to reward long-term loyalty (but with a closer goal post than LTS/LTG).

Thus it was a stupid idea to cap it, and reset it. Nullifies the whole point of the original Loyalty Bonus/Upgrade Credit design.

I hope the change (last year) was designed by a newly employed marketing grad, because if it was someone more senior - then QFF management have serious deficiencies in their talent pool.

It encourages Elites to fly more with QF to achieve the required ~, rather than coasting through on the SC and then flying VA/SQ etc.

dfcatch - for QF board! dfcatch - for QF board! . . .

Thanks Danger ;)

I just get so damned frustrated when I see stupid actions being taken that clearly don't advance any notion of positive outcome - whether that be customer satisfaction; increased patronage; profit maximization; or my biggest bug-bear - a cohesive strategy across the group!

With the ever increasing competition I'll think we'll see easier access with more frequent DSC offers, etc. People will always drift......P1's are achieving the very high SC mark & are still drifting over & achieving elite status with others.

these only happened because DJ offered them and QF had to respond as we couldnever find a redemption seat

I'm pretty sure QF offered online upgrades well before DJ even thought about it. also ASA's were around before DJ had them too. They even changed it to earn points and SC's on their own..

I love how most people on this board seem to devote their life to working out how Qantas could make things harder for other people to gain status and easier for themselves ;)

Is that the Qantas board you speak of?

I didn't need to devote my life to the process, it became apparent in a matter of seconds that any effective program would simply have two levels, one Platinum, iridium diamond level for me, and a second level with no real benefits for everyone else. :p

QFF seems to be unique in that the required number of eligible sectors is the same for all membership tiers and that qualification is not counted by the number of sectors...

isn't BA the same? Just 4 sectors there as well.

Just had a look:
2 sectors for bronze (OWR) and 4 for silver/gold (OWS/OWE)
Executive Club - Avios points and Tier Points explained - British Airways

In comparison, some have a SCs and sectors requirement (VA Velocity), miles and sectors (CX), a choice of either sectors or miles (AA) or a choice of either sectors only or sectors and SCs [tier points] (BA).

Funny how CX have premium cabin travel counting as "more than one sector" per sector:

Cathay Pacific - Frequent Flyers : The Marco Polo Club > Club Tiers

I'm sure each have their advantages/disadvantages depending on your travel pattern and airline network.
