Poznan

What a pretty place !


The wheels for 3 weeks

On the drive from Poznan to the Baltic Sea (Leba)

A restaurant where we were not given a table. I liked the foyer

Was a lovely chill out zone

And the food was splendid

We stayed right next door to some former Eastern European holiday digs


These days it’s a seaside resort with loads of “seaside” taxis and young lads earning summer holiday cash

So this morning was on the chase the ancestors run in Poland (former Prussia)

3 things stand out

1. It’s rambling farm land
2. There’s zero evidence Germans were ever living there as housing is post WW2
3. 99% of German headstones were removed when the 8 million were expelled back to Germany after the war


Churches are the only physical building link to the time the ancestors actually lived there

The village


There was just 4 German headstones perched at the back of one cemetery with this one here the only one of a similar time to when The ancestors departed for Australia

This small church was likely the most nearby the ancestors village. And around when they were there

Lebork for afternoon tea

This was the main centre church nearby the ancestors village and was the areas Lutheran church of the day

The accommodation for the night was in a University during summer holidays the rooms (and bar) are available to the public

Funny story
We rock up and the beds hadn’t been reset as twin singles. Housekeeping was still there so it wax rapidly fixed !

9 July
Was recommended we detour to Malbork to check out the largest castle by area in the world

Then onto Poznan for a night on the way down to Prague

Such a wild world

And the Poznan Square was beautiful

Museum of Polish Military Poznan


Tank signed by Stephen Spielberg as it was used in a movie


Also had a good chat with one of the volunteers who mentioned Qantas. I went back and gave him a QF bag tag !

The museum of artillery in the main city park (yes two in a morning. My mate loves his WW2 history and tanks and planes)
