And then he keeps the visa fee?
I would have paid the same reapplying for the visa at the desk and wasted an extra 1-2 hours so it makes little difference for me and it is not that it was behind closed doors or anything, it was right at the counter with all other counters full. I am told it is not uncommon.

I'm willing to bet it happens on a daily basis.

Booked BNE-SIN-BKK return on SQ for this trip as I didn't want to stuff around with an open jaw departing CNX for the return.

Return flight departs BKK at 6:30pm. Looked at various options CNX-BKK and most are afternoon departures with a short transit that I did not want to risk. Settled on PG which departs 10:10am and arrives 11:35am which leaves 7 hour transit in BKK.

Sounds fine right. I wasn't worried too much until this morning. Wouldn't want too much to go wrong. If PG cannot get us to BKK in time we are literally stuck in BKK.

But at least TI should cover that?

Travel insurance will cover myself and daughter. But you'd still need to pay for walk up flights first and then claim on travel insurance? I don't have that sort of spare money.

No travel insurance for wife as she's Thai and all expenses covered in Thailand.

Current delay is 3+ hours which should still leave ~4 hours in BKK but it's stressful going from 40m delay, 1h 55m delay, 2h 25m delay and then herd everyone down to the bus gates without any further announcements but further delays. Just saw PG aircraft land which gives a little relief.

This could be a travel.mistake or a learning experierence.
But i took my samsung phone and laptop with adaptor to changi airport.

The plane only had usb ports and half the charging stations at changi were all usb as well. (My phone charger is usbc)

So i couldnt charge either of them. I had to charge my phone via my laptop whilst at the very few power points that i found.

Very, very few aircraft have USB C native.

If you rent cars a lot (like I do), you get a mixture.

I'd recommend always carrying a USB A to USB C cable, and a C to C cable too.

I wasnt expecting a usbc anywhere however the lack of a powerpoint really got me.

Next time ill bring my a To C cable at the bottom of my drawer

Ah, got it, you only had a wall plug. I read it slightly different, as you then mentioned charging your phone via your laptop so assumed you had a USB cable to do that.

Not being totally match fit for flying I found I had a flight leaving Singapore to Perth before our flight from Los Angeles arrives due to the date change. Fixed it today.

Was about the make a mistake. This would have stopped me in transit.

I'm clearly too used to the ease of the Schengen area travel (and earlier the passport-free travel between Nordic countries) and was happily about to embark on a quick trip to NZ without a passport. When doing the OCLI this morning, I was dumbfounded why it would ask for the passport details. Only slowly it sank in that - in fact - I'm travelling to a foreign country, not just to next door (like driving Sweden - Denmark across the bridge).

The border control in MEL would have not been amused when I would have attempted to exit the country with a driver's license only.. 🤭

Yep today - left my iPad in Room 4131 of Jing’An Shangri-La Shanghai - realised when checked in at PVG and lifted computer bag and thought ’cough that is light’.

Called hotel and housekeeping had already located it - exchange of emails and it will be on its way to me tomorrow.

Kinda understandable how it could happen though - post breakfast to check out was only 6 hours with nothing else to do bar pack - you feel me?

Christmas/New Years overseas trips.

Travelling with a 7 year old daughter this is the time of year one can have a 4 week trip without interrupting school but my goodness they don't forget to jack up prices everywhere.

Staying in a large (2-3 star) hotel for 5 nights from Christmas Day and when I booked it in June it sounded like a good idea as we stayed there in April and it was basically empty but now having second thoughts. Pre Covid you could not get into this hotel as it was exclusively booked out months in advance by Chinese tour groups. Do not want to be in this hotel if the tour groups return by Christmas as expected but anything half decent is close to $100/night and more.

Taking a taxi from HNL to Waikiki instead of an Uber. Uber had surge pricing at $49, taxi ended up costing me US$80 (fare was $50ish, charged me $18 for bags and then directly asked me for a tip). He also said if I didn’t pay cash he’d have to add tax and fees on to the amount to use a card.

Never again.
